Long awaited Thunderbird Station from the proprietor of the popular Double Wide and Single Wide watering holes will open September 22. Kim Finch has been working tirelessly to renovate the historic service station which offers a full service bar and bites concept.
Showcasing a sprawling 5,400 square foot patio as well as a bar and indoor seating, the concept is a nod to yesteryear offering themed specialty cocktails including The Peel Out, a Push Pop-inspired frozen vodka cocktail, G-Tea-0, with tea infused gin and mint lemonade, and the JunkYard Dog, an A&W root beer-based vodka drink as well as and beer served in frosty mug drafts and cans.
The nostalgic Thunderbird Bites menuis also gives a nod to vintage fare with aptly named offerings including Hot Rod’s (Luscher’s Red Hots two ways), Rudolph’s Meat Market Bologna sandwiches, Frito Pie, Bean Dip, Mechanic Board,Dirty Dipsticks as well asthree different takes on a Sloppy Joe including a vegetarian option.
“We are so excited to get the doors open finally,” says Finch. “We wanted to honor the history of the building and have put all of our energy into maintaining the retro look and vintage feel while keeping true to the neighborhood. Designing it during a pandemic has certainly been a challenge.”
Finch’s other concepts, Double Wide and Single Wide look forward to safely reopening when permitted.
Originally built in 1922, the building was home to the revered Riegel’s service shop for 62 years (1954-2002) and most recently housed Bowls and Tacos.
