East Dallas Palmer’s Hot Chicken Opens October 19

Palmer’s Hot Chicken – the much-anticipated and authentic, counter-service with full-bar Nashville hot chicken concept will open their doors on Monday, October 19 for lunch and dinner, dine-in or to-go. Delivery on most major third-party delivery apps will begin 30 days post opening.

Located at the northeast corner of Mockingbird Lane and Abrams Road at 6465 East Mockingbird Lane in East Dallas’ historic Hillside Village shopping center, Palmer’s Hot Chicken was created by Texas native and Nashville-bred, Palmer Fortune.

Fortune and his Chef/Partner Mills Garwood are known for their award-winning recipes and restaurant Porch in St. Simon’s Island, Georgia. Prior to opening that neighborhood darling in 2018, they spent countless number of months coming up with the magical combination of heat, spice, and southern sass Dallas diners are about to experience.

The Menu

Fortune, along with his wife Amanda, and Chef Garwood who all recently moved to Dallas, have carefully planned the menu for Palmer’s Hot Chicken. Everything on the menu is made from scratch including desserts, signature sauces, dressings and sides. Proteins are of the highest quality with fresh catfish and shrimp delivered daily.

The star of the show, the Nashville hot chicken requires a 24-hour process from start to finish and pays homage to the original Nashville hot chicken creator, Thornton Prince. It is the authentic, original recipe without any twists or shortcuts.

All proteins are available in four heat levels including Naked (no heat), Novice (a l’il bit), Nashville (getting there) or Napalm (at your own risk…..and also Palmer’s nickname from when he ran a halfway house).

Not just Nashville hot chicken: Palmer’s also offers guests their pick of Roasted Chicken, Fried Tenders, Fried Catfish, Fried or Grilled Gulf Shrimp, Sandwiches, Street Tacos, Wraps or Salads. Expect Palmer’s signature sandwich, The MotherClucker with homemade pimento cheese and more!

Healthier options offered are the House Salad, Caesar Salad or Spinach Salad with red onion, button ‘shrooms, dried cherries, Georgia candied pecans, gorgonzola cheese, Hot Chicken Caesar Wrap or the Hot Chicken BLT Wrap.

Sides include classic southern favorites with a twist: Porch Corn, JB’s Collards, Maple Baked Beans, Pimento Cheese Grits, Flash Fried Brussels Sprouts drizzled with honey, Mac and Cheese and Smothered Pimento Queso Tots or Fries.

To top it off, Chef Mill’s family recipes of desserts offerings include the Big Daddy’s Nanner Puddin’ and Mills’ Bangin’ Ice Cream Cookie Sammich – chocolate or vanilla ice cream between two homemade chocolate chip cookies.

The Atmosphere

Fortune says, “We hope that our Southern comfort food and hospitality make guests feel right at home when they are dining with us. Even if customers are picking up to-go, our goal is they take that first bite when they get home and feel a sense of comfort and familiarity.” Palmer takes great pride in his authentic and homemade recipes but also his team offering diners the best of the best in hospitality as well.

Palmer’s Hot Chicken offers a comfortable setting with a rustic, beach-house inspired design of warm tones with reclaimed wood and exposed bricks. The interior dining room boasts seating for 100+ with booths, tables and a large full bar inside offering craft beer, their “famous” frosé and a full-bar lineup. Specialty cocktails include the Mint Julep, Pineapple Beesting, Paloma, Ranch Water and Basil Cucumber Collins.

Guests can enjoy the 1,400 square-foot covered patio offering a great space for kids to play while their parents catch a break. With big(ass) fans during the summer and gas heaters during the winter, the outdoor patio will be ideal year-round. Once it is safe for everyone, expect jumbo sized Jenga, Connect 4 games and more on the patio in the future.
