Covid Damage to Dallas Dining Scene

Let’s take a look at some of the havoc the pandemic has done with regards to Dallas area restaurants. The list isn’t pretty and left a hole on our dining scene. The list is far from complete and far from being over.

  • Look Cinemas and Ivy Kitchen — Theaters were hard hit.
  • Highland Park Cafeteria — This cafeteria marks the death knell for restaurants of its type going by the wayside. The quality had been dropping for some years, and it will probably never be replaced.
  • Off-Site Kitchen —  Our favorite
  • Mille Lire — This restaurant lost its owner due to a plane accident. Covid sealed its fate.
  • Savor —The Klyde Warren hotspot left us this year.
  • Christie’s — After being featured in an ad for Covid financial relief, Christies bowed out.
  • Neighborhood Services — The Preston Royal locatin is gone.
  • Soho Food and Jazz — Owners retired rather than re-open. Sadly missed.
  • Laurel Tavern — We loved this burger joint. Innovative.
  • The Foundry —A big punch inn the gut for West Dallas.
  • Five Sixty —This hot spot was the best revolving restaurant ever to be conceived with high end Asian and sushi bar.
  • Peggy Sue BBQ — Closed, then re-opened.
  • Mercy Wine Bar — Mercy Bar and Lounge in Irving will remain open.
  • Start —All locations are gone, which is sad. It was a good alternative to fast food.
  • Dakota’s Steakhouse  — Did, we mention how sad we are?
  • Chicken Scratch
  • Jake’s Burgers — This location closed due to a landlord dispute.
  • Eastside Social
  • The Lot — Big family whole in our hearts.
  • Lizard Lounge — Searching for new home.
  • Cool River Cafe — Some great chefs passed through these doors. We loved our last meals here.
  • Desert Racer — closed but will be replaced.
  • Perfect Union Pizza Company
  • Ceviche Oyster Bar
  • Houston’s — Addison was everyone’s favorite.
  • Black Swan Saloon — A huge hole in the Dallas cocktail scene.
  • Wheelhouse — Closed last month.
  • Salaryman — chef-owner Justin Holt diagnosed with Leukemia.
  • Kobe Steaks — Addison stalwart, gone.
  • Beauty Bar
  • Taco Stop
  • Nazca Kitchen — We will definitely miss this.
  • Crossroads Diner — One of the really good Dallas chefs rested his toque. Please come back.
  • Barbec’s — Suffered a debilitating fire.
  • Bird Cafe
