To kick off Women’s History Month, the Dallas Mavericks announced a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Gift of Character partnership with Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas (GSNETX) that will power the regional organization’s DEI efforts in four key structural transformations – people, programs, processes and properties. The Mavs are investing $50,000 annually over a 3-year period, for a total of $150,000. Through the continuous support of the partnership, the region’s Girl Scouts will be given the tools to build the courage to stand-up, the confidence to speak-up and the character to take action against inequities in the world.

Last month, the Mavericks and GSNETX kicked off the partnership with the region’s first-ever Black History Month Patch powered by the Dallas Mavericks, which will continue all three years. Girl Scouts (K-12) across 32 counties were encouraged to learn, connect and take action on topics that related to the history, culture, and contributions of African Americans. Photos of Dallas area Girl Scouts earning their Black History Month Patches are available for editorial use here. In February, the Mavs also became the first year presenting sponsor of the GSNETX World Thinking Day Panel, where community peacemakers joined the Girl Scouts in a conversation about how girls can build peace from a personal, community and global perspective.

“We’re investing in the lives of our youth to empower these girls as they take the necessary steps to shatter glass ceilings,” Mavs CEO Cynt Marshall said. “These girl scouts are the leaders of the future and through this partnership, we’re amplifying that.”

Last year, GSNETX honored Cynt Marshall with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 16th annual Women of Distinction virtual event. The event recognized local leaders who take the initiative to make the world a better place, while inspiring others to do the same. The partnership includes additional support over the 3-year deal for GSNETX’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts through the Mavs Take ACTION! Plan and their STEM Center of Excellence through future Mavs education programs. Mavs Academy will also play a role in hosting camps as it aligns with Jr. NBA programming and the GEM program, Girls Empowered by Mavericks.
