Fishing For Seafood At Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille

The Perry family opened its first restaurant in 1979 in Southeast Houston as a modest meat market called Perry’s Butcher Shop and Deli. In 1986, Chris Perry persuaded his father Bob to add dining tables, which eventually led to an expansion and the opening of a second market. As the markets gained popularity, Chris opened Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in 1993. The original two butcher shops are also still in operation as Perry & Sons Market & Grille.

Now best known for their elegant table-side service, something we have been in search of in the Dallas area for the past weeks, guest may expect to find the famously mouth-watering pork chop, Prime USDA-aged steaks and Chateaubriand tableside carvings. Other favorite items include our hanging symphony kabob, southwest filet, fried asparagus with lump crab, signature steak additions and flaming desserts.

Moroccan Spiced Salmon

We were excited to see many wonderful dishes at Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille. These along with some fantastic cocktails that paired extremely well with out dining selections.

The seafood on the Perry’s menu begins with a smattering of options of starters including Blue Points, Escargot, and even a Tempura Lobster Tail. Perry’s signature starter is Fried Asparagus topped with Large Lump Crab. And, of course, the impressive seafood tower glares at you from the pages of the menu.

Pan Seared Sea Bass

The most famous item of the menu is not seafood, but instead the chop. We will be visiting that chop at another visit very soon, but consider the seven-finger pork chop, a recipe perfected over three decades by the Perry family. Measuring seven-fingers high, the prime cut is hand selected, roasted, slow smoked and caramelized. It is then finished in the oven and topped with Perry’s Herb-Garlic butter before being carved tableside.

But we are on a seafood journey so we aim ourselves at the swimmingly delicious Everything Crusted Ahi Tuna, which is encrusted much like that bagel you had this morning with all that crunchy goodness such as  poppy seeds, sesame seeds, onion flakes, caraway seeds, garlic flakes, pretzel salt, and pepper. Magnificent and served with an Asian slaw and ginger tomato fondue.

Highland Highball

The Sea Bass with its large shards of buttery flakiness is always an excellent selection and is served with  creamy corn and red pepper coulis. Our slam dunk favorite was the Moroccan-spiced Salmon. This coming from a skeptic of all things salmon for the very reason that it is almost always cooked improperly. Not the case at Perry’s. Our salmon arrived with a particular pungency from the spice rub, but once cut into the salmon was tender, juicy even, and very medium rare. Bless the chef.

Perry’s Social Hour allows fantastic cocktail and food options which includes 7 handcrafted cocktails for $9 each, deliciously shareable bar bites, and great prices on fine wine and craft beer. Look for a flight of martinis which also may be mixed and matched.  Social Hour runs Monday-Friday 4-7pm and Sundays 4-9pm. Live music enhances this experience.

We visited the Uptown location but you will find several Perry’s Steakhouses in the DFW area including Frisco and Grapevine.
