Messina Hof Winery Wins at 38th Lone Star International Wine Competition

Messina Hof Winery, with an urban wine tasting room in  Historic Grapevine, Texas, earned three prestigious awards at the 38th Lone Star International Wine  Competition (LSIWC) held on October 6 – 7 in Grapevine, Texas. LSIWC is the oldest and most  prestigious wine competition in Texas.

Messina Hof won awards in the below categories:

• Grand Star – Gewurztraminer Private Reserve, 2019

• Best in Texas White, Gewurztraminer – Gewurztraminer Private Reserve, 2019 • Bronze – Blushing Angel label, new vintage

“Our Messina Hof Private Reserve Gewürztraminer 2019 is a stunning off-dry white with beautiful  aromatics, refreshing acidity, and wonderful balance,” said Karen Bonarrigo, Chief Administrative  Officer of Messina Hof Wine Cellars. “It is a unique varietal that we have enjoyed working with in the  Texas High Plains AVA for many years, and we feel it is one of the most dynamic white wines that Texas  produces.”

Messina Hof recently launched Blushing Angel, a “Heavenly Sweet” Riesling-based rosé whose label  won the Bronze award.

“The label is a modification of the blue bottle Angel product with an emphasis on frosted glass,  mimicking clouds, and the pink color of the wine is displayed through the bottle,” Bonarrigo said. This  product is a line extension of their popular Angel product, a dessert-style Late Harvest Riesling.

This year’s competition featured more than 800 unique wine entries from 115 unique companies  competing in four categories: Texas Wine, International Wine, Limited Production and Wine Label.
