The Douglas, the Neighborhood Restaurant Nestled in Snider Plaza, Celebrates 1-Year Anniversary

The Douglas, the neighborhood restaurant located in Snider Plaza serving elevated Texas cuisine, celebrates its 1-year anniversary with the launch of an updated menu and a celebration on Wednesday, June 7th.

On the inspiration for The Douglas, owner Doug Pickering says, “Growing up in the Park Cities area, Snider Plaza has always been a place I’ve spent a lot of time with my friends and family and somewhere that’s always felt like home to me. I wanted to create that same feeling of comfort for our guests by developing a space that felt like an extension of my own house and kitchen in the same neighborhood that I feel so fondly about.”

The design played a huge role in achieving the environment Pickering was aiming to create at The Douglas. Javier Burkle, owner of Burkle Creative, said, “Our main objective with The Douglas was to create a timeless, ageless space that felt comfortable and like a home away from home for guests.”

Burkle continues, “The food at The Douglas is classic with a unique perspective that only Doug brings, so we wanted to do the same through the design. We channeled a classic Americana style with a twist which is exhibited through the atypical use of colors and patterns we selected. To bring in the personal element that Doug was looking for we used a large chalk board that came from Doug’s mom’s home and evokes memories of time spent with his family. The chalkboard is used to display daily specials and updates from The Douglas as guests walk through the doors.”

A year after opening, Pickering is excited to unveil the next iteration of The Douglas to guests which will bring his original inspiration for the concept into fruition. Pickering adds, “While barbecue is a huge passion of mine, I’ve always wanted The Douglas to be a place where guests can come enjoy something different multiple times a week whether they are looking for a salad, oysters, steak or tacos.”

“My inspiration for The Douglas has always been about ‘elevated Texas cuisine’, which to me means everything from steak to Tex-Mex,” he continues. “We tested some Tex-Mex items on our menu for Cinco de Mayo and were thrilled with how well received they were and how easily they melded into The Douglas culture.”

“With that said, we’re excited to introduce some classic Tex-Mex dishes to our menu starting Wednesday, July 7th as we kick off our one year anniversary.”

New to the menu, guests can enjoy appetizers including Smoked Guacamole and Tex-Mex Queso, both served with crispy corn tortilla chips. Take your Tex-Mex Queso to the next level by topping it with brisket or pulled pork. Additionally, The Douglas will offer Tacos Al Carbon prepared with Woodfired Rosewood Wagyu skirt steak or chicken breast, grilled green peppers & onions, side of spanish rice & charro beans, served with a choice of corn or flour tortillas. New to the dessert menu are Churros served with a side of spicy Mexican chocolate dipping sauce.

To celebrate the anniversary, The Douglas invites guests to celebrate with them on Wednesday, June 7th with live music by Ray Johnston and drink specials all evening. The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. and will continue through close. Guests will be some of the first to try the new menu items at the neighborhood eatery.

Additionally, as The Douglas turns one they announce Chef Alexander Meza as Chef de Cuisine, a promotion from his previous role as Sous Chef. Chef Meza has worked in the kitchens of some of Dallas’ most beloved restaurants including Flora Street, Oak, Tango Room, and more.
