You might have met John Jay Myers, he is the guy who owns the Deep Ellum lounge with the Cajun twist The Free Man. He also runs a screen printing company called ClearSky24 and manages several of his own properties. In addition to all this you might often catch him on a Sunday evening sitting in on a few sets with his drum kit and cigar in tow. John is a busy and seemingly content family man. Continue reading

Grassias, Paula Lambert
If you haven’t checked out the Grand Dame of Cheese Paula Lambert’s shop in Deep Ellum you have not experienced one of the city’s sweet slices of life. The Mozzarella Company cheese shop is tiny; very tiny. But somehow Lambert is able to crank out enough cheese to supply many area shops including Bolsa Mercado, Scardello, Whole Foods, Central Market, and even more regional and national restaurants. Continue reading

Zen Enters Cupcake Arena
I am not really sure where the cupcake sits in the pastry line-up these days. This past weekend I had the opportunity to step into more than a few bakeries, each featured a cupcake, cake balls and other sweet treats like macarons. My personal affinity is towards the macaron, the power-packed tiny sweet sandwich made from meringue. Continue reading

Have a Safe and Happy St Pats
As we get ready for the weekend we wish to thank you for checking out our little website this week. We considered throwing out a list of places to medicate your liver for St Pats, but there are plenty of options and we want to get started in on the fun ourselves right away. We have a crew of camera folks hitting the streets starting tonight, so if you see a craveDFW photog be sure to look extra inebriated.
Be safe and enjoy one of our favorite holidays of the year. May the hinges of our friendship never grow rusty.

McCallister Pies It Up
Last night as part of the visiting celebrity chef series at Cane Rosso, Matt McCallister stormed the Deep Ellum Neapolitan pizzeria with a few surprises. If you have been following the Cane Rosso files for the past year you would understand that owner Jay Jerrier is unforgiving with two specific pizza ingredients. Specifically, ranch dressing and pineapple.
Knowing this, McCallister with his bright sense of humor decided to make two varieties of pies. One would contain pineapple. Continue reading
