At the busy corner of Lemmon and McKinney Avenue, right next to the northbound trolley stop and just a couple of blocks from my dog’s favorite park (Mutts) is Max’s Wine Dive. I was initially off put by its slogan “Fried Chicken and Champagne?…Why The Hell Not?!” It seemed that chicken could go with so much more types of wine. Continue reading

Comparative Wine Dinner Inaugurates KB’S Event Venue For Kent Rathbun Catering
Kent Rathbun has moved his catering operations to Plano and turned the space that used to be Zea Woodfire Grill into an event venue. The space was christened, after a fashion, last week with an extensive dinner pairing four courses by catering chef Jeff Qualls and wines from Constellation Brands presented by Constellation representative Todd Ruback. I was an invited guest at the event. Continue reading

Joining us will be Assistant Winemaker Charlie Miller, who will lead attendees in the tasting of several limited release 2010 and 2011 vintages. Continue reading

The Ranch at Las Colinas And Franciscan Estate Team Up for Release of New Wine Vintage
Franciscan Estate is a winery with a long history in the heart of California’s Napa Valley. The last few years has seen something of a frenzy of innovation as owner Constellation Brands seeks to reposition it as a more upmarket product. I think that, given the possibilities and the cost realities of the Napa Valley, this is a wise idea. Last week, Franciscan introduced the new vintage of their wines at a public dinner at The Ranch At Las Colinas and they are impressive. I was fortunate to be an invited media guest at the event. Wine Enthusiast Adds FT33 To Top 100 Wine Restaurants
Wine Enthusiast named their top 100 wine restaurants and FT33 was given kudos and listed “destination” bottles such as Etienne Sauzet 2009 Champ Canet Premier Cru (Puligny-Montrachet), and Futo Estate 2009 Oakville. That list is now being curated by general manager Jeff Gregory who had previously worked the list at Rise No 1, and taught at the Cordon Bleu Dallas.
The wine menu is a terrific reason to stop in at FT33, not only for dinner but the restaurant also makes for a very cozy nightcap. Continue reading
