Rathbun Hosts A BBQ Workshop
I think if you were to tally up all the chef’s names we have mentioned or written about on craveDFW, Kent Rathbun’s would top that list. Not that we particularly like him (we do), but that he is so involved in many, many projects. Rathbun is known for his grill skills and now wants to share some of his guarded secrets with you and a few friends. Wine Poste Paired with Scardello is the New Quality Wine and Cheese Tasting Place Around Town
WinePoste.com, a Design District Internet wine seller and wine event space has teamed up with Scardello Cheese to do monthly wine and cheese tasting classes. It’s a powerful combination. One of best cheese merchants in town paired with a quality wine merchant (while WinePoste is brand new, its principals have over 30 man-years in the wine business). This week I was fortunate to be a guest at the first event, Tuscany Wine and Cheese Pairing. Continue reading

Ocho Hosts First Wine Dinner With Oak Cliff Cellars
Finally, cocktail buzz hub Och8, the Dallas outpost of Eric DiSteffano’s Coyote Café empire, held its first wine tasting. I was an invited guest to taste the wines of locally owned California winery Oak Cliff Cellars. Owner Jim Richardson was in attendance to guide us through the wines and Och8 execuchef Joel Harloff took us through the food. These two are a good double-act, and so are their respective products. Neither overwhelmed the other, a fact attested to in the hearty applause at the end from the full-house audience. Continue reading

Brunello: The Highest Stage of Sangiovese
In my college days I once had to read a book called “Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism” by this man named Lenin who had the seriously trimmed beard and bald head of a sommelier in a high-priced steak house. To co-opt his phrase for a more plausible contention, Brunello di Montalcino is the highest stage of the marvelous but capricious Sangiovese grape. Continue reading
