2025 Big Tex Choice Award Winners

The most anticipated tasting event of the year has arrived: the 21st Annual Big Tex® Choice Awards, presented by Karbach Brewing Company, showcased the state’s most inventive and mouthwatering Fair foods. After sampling and evaluating fifteen standout creations, the all-star panel of judges finalized their selections, honoring the dishes that pushed the boundaries of flavor, creativity, and sheer indulgence. The winners reflect both technical skill and imaginative twists, delivering bites that will linger in memory long after the Fair ends.

Winners of the 2021 Big Tex Choice Awards

The 17th Annual Big Tex® Choice Awards was a battle for the ages. Despite a year’s hiatus, the 2021 finalists proved that there is no shortage of creativity when it comes to this competition. After tasting all 10 foods and carefully evaluating each item, the all-star panel of judges have tallied their scores and cast their final votes. Drum roll please…and the winners are: “Best Taste – Savory” AND “Most Creative” go to the Deep Fried Seafood Gumbo Balls by Gourmet Royale, while The Armadillo by James Barrera wins “Best Taste – Sweet.”

2021 Big Tex Choice Awards Food Competition Semi-Finalists

State Fair of Texas concessionaires are officially off to the races with a new lineup of incredible, edible innovations for the public to taste at the Fair this fall. The 17th Annual Big Tex® Choice Awards offers another year of exciting bites for all appetites. The 2021 lineup is bursting with flavor – whether you love savory or sweet, you’re in for a treat this year. After much deliberation in the first round of judging, the scores have been tallied and the results are in; 32 semi-finalists have been named to move forward. Comprised of 19 savory and 13 sweet entries, these semi-finalist contenders are one step closer to the main event, where they will compete for one of three winning titles: “Best Taste – Savory,” “Best Taste – Sweet,” and “Most Creative.”

The 2017 Big Tex Choice Award Finalists Announced

Officials with the State Fair of Texas announced the finalists for the 13th annual Big Tex Choice Awards Wednesday morning. Past years heavy weights such as Abel Gonzales and Isaac Rousso are missing from the finalist list this year, but there are definitely some interesting gastronomic train wrecks that we will all most likely want to sample.
