The Best Gumbo in Dallas 2017 Edition

Today is National Gumbo Day so we are celebrating as we only know how, with a giant list of fantastic places to enjoy your favorite bowl of goodness.

Gumbo is that delicious pot of stew that starts off with a roux, that chocolate brown thickener that gives gumbo its distinctive hue and rich flavor. In New Orleans a meat-based gumbo may consist of chicken, turtle, duck, squirrel, rabbit or alligator. Seafood-based gumbo generally has shrimp, crab, and sometimes oysters. Most varieties of gumbo are seasoned with a special mirepoix consisting of onions, bell pepper, and celery, or what they call the Holy Trinity. Today, most people are familiar with seafood gumbo and chicken and sausage gumbo.   Continue reading

Dallas Farmers Market Announces New Merchants Including Scardello, Bohemian Cafe and Si Tapas

The Dallas Farmers Market continues its award-winning revitalization efforts by announcing today more than 20 new and returning vendors and merchants that have signed leases to be housed at The Market (formally Shed 2) when it re-opens in June. These food artisans and merchants will join previously announced anchor restaurants Rex’s Seafood and Market, Stocks & Bondy, Taqueria La Ventana, Nammi/Coolhaus, Palmieri Café and Mudhen, the 5,500-square-foot free-standing restaurant and beer garden from restaurateur Shannon Wynne.   Continue reading

Cajun Tailgators To Open In Plano

Cajun Tailgators, the Louisiana-inspired food truck is going brick and mortar on us and will open at their  location in downtown Plano at 1112 E 15th Street sometime in November. Owned and operated by Jason Key and Ann Keady,  their menu is revolving, but mainstays include items such as gumbo, jambalaya, and crawfish etouffee.

Specialty items that they are most famous for include favorites such as their crawfish pistolette which is a French roll that is fried and filled with cheese, spices and crawfish,  deep fried boudin balls, and their freshly made Natchitoches meat pies.    Continue reading
