All good things are worth the wait, and for seafood lovers in East Dallas this never rang truer than for 20 Feet Seafood Joint owned and operated by Marc Cassel and his lovely chef-partner Susan Fries, to whom he is engaged. The tiny restaurant located next to two East Dallas sweethearts, Good 2 Go Taco and Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House has already made quite the splash with local residents and foodmongers. Fine Dining on the Texas Coast

by Joey Stewart

On our quest to seek out the “finer dining” gems along the south Texas coast we present GLOW, the second restaurant reviewed in as many weeks located in the town of Rockport, Texas.

Chef/Owner Karey B. Johnson showcases locally caught seafood in a restored boathouse just off the water in this fishing and vacation town.  “Our role at GLOW is to present the ingredients in a simple, elegant way that showcases the essence of the dish.  We wouldn’t want to muddle the flavors,” she explains.  “They speak for themselves.” Along with über fresh seafood, Karey also brings in meats such as antelope from Broken Arrow Ranch in the Hill Country and local goat for a featured slow-braised cabrito and masa dish.   Continue reading

Japanese Food Porn From Sharaku Sake Lounge

by Steven Doyle         photos by Joey Stewart

CraveDFW contributor Joey Stewart prepared this photo essay during a recent visit to Sharaku Sake Lounge, a particularly wonderful izakaya. Consider a izakaya like a Japanese tapas bar which offers sake and small plates like crispy fried morsels called kushiage, grilled skewers called kushiyaki, and shabu-shabu which are meats cooked tableside in steaming pots of broth.

Sharaku has the same owner as one of the very best sushi bars nearly next door, Yutaka Sushi Bistro. Both spots are fresh, contemporary and exemplary. Both are located in a small strip center in the 2600 block of McKinney in Uptown Dallas.

There are plenty of fun dishes to order from the menu while washing them down with bottles of Kirin, or one of the many sakes and custom cocktails.  We will let the dishes speak for themselves today as Joey walks us through his dining experience.

Driftwood Sailing With A Smooth Start

by Steven Doyle    photos by Joey Stewart

A week before Oak Cliff’s newest restaurant opened, Driftwood, we checked out the new menu and digs.  We were happy to report that it looked extremely promising and we were excited to see chef  Omar Flores, formerly of Abacus, leading the fight in the kitchen.

We found the seafood to be fresh and inviting.    Continue reading
