Eat Me: DaLat’s Chili

dalatby Steven Doyle

Plenty can be written about Khanh Nguyen at DaLat. He is definitely the king of the late night menu, serving pho and plenty of other interesting Vietnamese items on into the night.  Arrive at 1:59 and you will be welcome to order, whereas any other establishment would be sweeping and shaking you off to find bad waffles for your 2am fix. Many of the late night patrons are waiters, bartenders and chefs. Others arrive directly from the bars that surround the neighborhood. All are welcomed with a steaming bowl of pho, or one of the many other items that will definitely sooth your soul.

And damn those delicious little DaLat shooters which are Vietnamese meatballs seared and sunk into a spicy broth of sake, coconut and cream. Toss your head back for a moment of bliss.    Continue reading

It has been just over a month since Khanh Nguyen opened his new pizza haunt ZaLat next door to his famous late night pho restaurant DaLat on Fitzhugh in Dallas.  Since then he has had a growing number of fans take advantage of the delivery service which roughly covers a five mile radius of the new shop. Since we broke the story most of the Dallas media picked up on the fact that Khanh is actually making one of the best pizzas around – and for good reason.  Continue reading

Owner Of DaLat To Open Pizza Resto Named ZaLat

News from the undisputed King of Late Night Pho, Khanh Nguyen owner of DaLat, says that he will open a late night pizza parlor next to his pho-riffic restaurant on Fitzhugh in Dallas. Nguyen will be taking over the former Pastazio’s location which closed in November of 2014 and situated next door to DaLat at 2519 North Fitzhugh Avenue. The restaurateur plans to name the pizza joint ZaLat, to open late nights and with delivery. Projected to open sometime in February.

ZaLat will be open from 5pm to midnight to start, with the ultimate goal of staying open until 4am. Nguyen said in an interview today that neighboring El Come Taco is looking at staying open late into the night as well, making that section of Fitzhugh a dining Mecca for service industry workers and the apres-bar crowd. He is also working with El Come to develop a pizza with a south-of-the-border flair, a street taco pizza made with al pastor. Other pies with an ethnic flair include a Reuben that he says is to die for, and might be better than its sandwich counterpart. We are particularly looking forward to a Thai pizza based on the meatball shooters served at DaLat.

DaLat’s Kanh Nguyen On Why Fitzhugh Is An Inspring Location For A Restaurant

by Steven Doyle

Khanh Nguyen is the owner of DaLat, the new Vietnamese inspired restaurant located in the former RedFork location on Fitzhugh just east of I75 in Dallas. The location has met with a few tragic tales, including one we mention today about Herrera’s shuttering next door after just a few months of operation.  But this news doesn’t frighten Nguyen who feels it is a strong and transitioning neighborhood.        Continue reading
