Three brothers from Lebanon started a pastry shop on East Main Street in Richardson in 2002. They called it Afrah — the Arabic word for joy and happiness — and they made sweets the way their mother taught them, from scratch, using family recipes that had been in the family long enough that nobody remembered when they weren’t. The pastries were so good that customers started asking what else the kitchen could do. The brothers obliged.

Babel has arrived in Uptown Dallas, transforming the former Steel space in the Centrum building into an upscale Mediterranean destination. The restaurant is the latest venture from restaurateur Mo Kamal, known for Open Sesame, and is helmed in the kitchen by his sister, Chef Zeina Kamal, who brings authentic Lebanese recipes and a deft hand with Mediterranean flavors. From the moment you step inside, it’s clear this is a place where attention to detail and care for the guest experience take center stage.
