The Old Warsaw Has Been on Maple Avenue Since 1948

Ask the right people in Dallas where to go for a genuinely special dinner and eventually someone mentions The Old Warsaw. They say it quietly, the way people mention things they half-want to keep to themselves. It has been at 2512 Maple Avenue in Uptown since 1948 — 77 years, same French Continental menu, same candlelit room, same pianist — and it remains one of the least-known great restaurants in a city that somehow keeps missing it.

Dallas has so many wonderful hot spots that can supply your sweetheart with an amiable stash to keep her happy for quite some time. We would certainly recommend Dude, Sweet Chocolate, Isabelly’s, CocoAndre in Oak Cliff, and Kate Wiser in Trinity Groves for starters.

We do love our chocolate. We also enjoy it in soufflé form, and we have found some of the best places to drop a few dollars on the light and airy dessert that makes a meal more special, especially this time of year when hearts go fluttering at the mere mention of the sweet dish.     Continue reading

Generations have celebrated certain restaurants in Dallas, enjoying the cuisine that made Dallas strong and certainly has given it character. Today we pay homage to a select handful of these Dallas classics and hope you will continue to enjoy them as time honors them with continued success.

I recall some old favorites including  Zeider Zee, The Beefeater, Prince of Burgers and Southern Kitchen. Perhaps you have some memories of restaurants that come to mind.
