Second Annual Savor Mexico

by Steven Doyle

The Second Annual Savor Mexico will be held Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Milestone Culinary Arts Center. Savor Mexico combines the tastes and flavors of Mexico with a philanthropic twist. Also consider Savor Mexico a cultural exchange.

I attended last year’s event and it was filled with bright colors, dancers, an ice carver, mariachis, textiles and tastes all from Mexico. There were plenty of food samples and wine flowing. One highlight from of the event was the competition involving top senior students from Universidad del Valle de Mexico culinary school in San Luis Potosi. The young aspiring chefs drove up to 20 hours to attend the event, only to be judged by their professors as top chef. Front runners from last years event included a pasta-less Mexican Lasagna, Sopa de Recezon and a Jicama Cake. It is a great way to taste the flavors of mexico and see what new trends are on the horizons.

The event is organized by Jorge Levy, owner of Desperados Mexican Restaurant. Levy uses the event to discover new talent and dishes. This is a fun event that you won’t want to miss. Tickets are now on sale.
