Domaine Bertagna Haute Côtes de Nuits, “Les Dames Hugettes”, Burgundy, France is a long name that basically says that this is a red wine made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes that come from the hills of Burgundy. It’s suggested retail price is $30.99 but you can get it at Spec’s for $23.00. That price it is a comparative bargain for what is a good benchmark of appellation Burgundy.
The wine is a classic red Burgundy. Earthy, mineral notes with raspberry fruit and grippy tannins all bound into a harmonious whole. Can be drunk now or kept up to five years. It goes best with pink meats such as duck and pork. We had it at Ruth’s Chris French Wine Dinner in Dallas served with chef Thomas Holt’s Duck Confit and White Bean Cassoulet (with garlic crostini). Superb.
