Sharon Van Meter recently closed the doors at the Milestone Culinary Arts Center located on McKinney just south of Knox. The multi-purpose kitchen and event venue has hosted hundreds if not thousands of wonderful parties and charity events over the years. But do not feel sad for Chef Van Meter as she is outing the final touches on her new vision which will be located in Trinity Groves located in West Dallas just across the new Santiago Calatrava-designed bridge that was formerly said to be the bridge to nowhere. Savor Dallas Events: Lunch With A Dame
As we prepare for one of the largest wine events in the Southwest, Savor Dallas which starts this Friday, we noticed that there are a few ancillary events that are new this year and help out a variety of food and wine related charities. Specifically there is a Les Dames d’Escoffier luncheon Saturday, March 31st.
I realize that the very name Les Dames d’Escoffier might be alien to some readers, but the international organization is remarkable. It is made up of food and wine industry women that are noted in their field who make a difference for young women by means of scholarships. Continue reading
Gluten Free Class at Milestone
The Holidays are upon us. That means more socializing and more get togethers. In short — more eating. It can be a challenging time for people with gluten or other food sensitivities. When local alternative health broadcaster nutrition and expert Cindy Freeling became gluten free, and then later corn free, there were not a lot of options in buying foods that didn’t have these ingredients. So, as a cook she started making her own.

An Anniversary to Remember
This past weekend I was fortunate to help celebrate the 10th wedding anniversary of Sharon Van Meter and her husband Jerry Owens with their close friends and family.
You may know Van Meter from Milestone Culinary Arts Center, but she is also a very well respected chef who is a graduate of the Cordon Bleu, Paris, has been inducted in the honorable culinary societies of World Master Chefs Society, Les Dames d’Escoffier and Euro-Toques International. She has cheffed at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago and also is Director of New Projects Development for Food Network TV.
I am fortunate to know the couple and will admit that Sharon has been instrumental in guiding me with several projects. She is giving and benevolent as she is talented and loving.
With all that gushiness aside I wish to share a few photos from the couples special evening where they hosted about 30 for dinner at the Milestone this past weekend.
