Cantina Laredo’s Tamale Class

When I went into Cantina Laredo, I kept seeing “Modern Mexican” everywhere, so when I interviewed Rambo Saucedo, the chef teaching the lesson in tamales, I asked what he thought that meant. He said it means that they keep the flavors of the past, the traditional dishes and add a little more. It was my first time at Cantina Laredo and I went to their tamale-making class, but after being there and interacting with the staff, I will be back.

Cantina Laredo Addison to host Espolon Tequila dinner on Aug. 19

Evoking the flavors of modern Mexico City cuisine, Cantina Laredo in Addison will host a special four-course Tequila Dinner featuring exclusive menu items on Saturday, Aug. 19. Guests will be treated to an Espolòn Tequila flight during the cocktail reception beginning at 7 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m.

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos in Dallas

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is not a Mexican version of Halloween. Though related, the two annual events differ greatly in traditions and tone. Whereas Halloween is a dark night of terror and mischief, Day of the Dead festivities unfold over two days in an explosion of color and life-affirming joy. Sure, the theme is death, but the point is to demonstrate love and respect for deceased family members. In towns and cities throughout Mexico, revelers don funky makeup and costumes, hold parades and parties, sing and dance, and make offerings to lost loved ones. Continue reading

Celebrate National Margarita Day With A Few Friends

It is National Margarita Day. These foodie holidays can be a bit wearisome, but this is one day I can circle my wagon around. It also happens to fall on Chili Day, which we have provided handily for you to enjoy. But let’s take a look at some specials going on today and a look at our favorites. Because it is a day to celebrate.

We spoke with Leann Berry last night, she is part of the Dream Team who re-opened Cedars Social recently. Berry is the ace bartendress behind the new concept and has been named repeatedly one of the best bartenders in Texas, and even more specifically one who makes the best margarita.
