News from the undisputed King of Late Night Pho, Khanh Nguyen owner of DaLat, says that he will open a late night pizza parlor next to his pho-riffic restaurant on Fitzhugh in Dallas. Nguyen will be taking over the former Pastazio’s location which closed in November of 2014 and situated next door to DaLat at 2519 North Fitzhugh Avenue. The restaurateur plans to name the pizza joint ZaLat, to open late nights and with delivery. Projected to open sometime in February.
ZaLat will be open from 5pm to midnight to start, with the ultimate goal of staying open until 4am. Nguyen said in an interview today that neighboring El Come Taco is looking at staying open late into the night as well, making that section of Fitzhugh a dining Mecca for service industry workers and the apres-bar crowd. He is also working with El Come to develop a pizza with a south-of-the-border flair, a street taco pizza made with al pastor. Other pies with an ethnic flair include a Reuben that he says is to die for, and might be better than its sandwich counterpart. We are particularly looking forward to a Thai pizza based on the meatball shooters served at DaLat.

Each week we ask the question, “What’s Eating Your Phone”? This is where we all can join in on the foodie fun and send in your latest dining photo that has you all jazzed. These are not necessarily limited to dining out, it can be from that last dinner party. And don’t think we discriminate against libations. Send in your favorite cocktail photo, too.
To be included in a future edition of What’s Eating Your Phone, send those photos to me at email@example.com. A brief description and location would be super helpful. Here are this week’s selections: Continue reading

For years when asked where to dine in Plano and even further north of Dallas there were few choices. Certainly there are plenty of national chains to choose from, and plenty of Indian restaurants, some decent, some not so much. The choice for many suburbanites was to make a trek into the inner city of Dallas and its surrounding neighborhoods. However, in recent weeks there have been some moves to change that and actually bring some of the better restaurants to the burbs.
The first to come to mind is the Bishop Arts District BBQ haven, Lockhart Smokehouse that is operational and located in downtown Plano at 1026 E 15th. There you may already sample some of the best ‘que North Texas ha to offer. Now in Plano. Continue reading
I was in DaLat a few weeks ago to see what Khahn Nguyen was serving up on his new menu. The food was amazing, and my group was entertained by Khahn’s karaoke crooning. He spoke of the new sign which was just installed, and said he was waiting until the sign paid for itself. I do love Khahn, and love even more to scream Khaaaaaahn every time he is sighted.
More on the new menu soon, but just had to share this really cool photo of the very retro looking sign snapped by craveDFW friend, Erin Garner. Happy Friday. Continue reading
Khanh Nguyen is the owner of DaLat, the new Vietnamese inspired restaurant located in the former RedFork location on Fitzhugh just east of I75 in Dallas. The location has met with a few tragic tales, including one we mention today about Herrera’s shuttering next door after just a few months of operation. But this news doesn’t frighten Nguyen who feels it is a strong and transitioning neighborhood. Continue reading
Friend of craveDFW and bridge keeper over at the blog Chomp!, Irene Huang send us news that she has already sampled the pho over at the soon-to-open DaLat which is located on Fitzhugh in the former RedFork space. She has high regard for the Vietnamese soup and said that she worked up room for not one but two bowls during a preview dinner at DaLat. Continue reading
