The Saint Moved to the Design District, the New Chef Made it Worth the Trip

When The Saint opened in 2023 on Gaston Avenue near the club corridor off Good Latimer, it was a fish out of water from the start. The concept — an Italian steakhouse with serious food and a sophisticated room — landed in a block full of bars and nightclubs that drew a completely different crowd. Regulars found it. The food was better than the location suggested. But the neighborhood was never right for what the restaurant was trying to be.

In November 2025 it closed the Gaston Avenue location and moved. The new address is 1000 N. Riverfront Boulevard in the Design District — second floor, above Night Rooster, the modern Chinese concept from the same Hooper Hospitality Concepts group — with a view of the downtown Dallas skyline from nearly every seat in the room. It reopened January 3 with a new executive chef and a menu built around him.

La Lupita Just Opened in the Design District

If you’ve spent any time in Los Cabos, you already know La Lupita. The original is open-air — no roof, just Baja sky — and has been one of the most reliably packed restaurants in Cabo San Lucas for years, earning recognition from Condé Nast Traveler, GOOP, and Marie Claire along the way. The concept built its reputation on al pastor done right, a mezcal program taken seriously, and the kind of room energy that makes a two-hour dinner feel like thirty minutes. It opened its first United States location on May 23 at 1201 Oak Lawn Avenue in the Design District, and Dallas is the right city to receive it.

Punk Noir Opens in the Design District June 2 — 20 Courses, 26 Seats

A new tasting menu restaurant called Punk Noir opens June 2 in Dallas’ Design District at 139 Turtle Creek Blvd. The concept is owned by Dallas natives John McKeel and his sons Cole and Clay, and it’s being run in the kitchen by James Beard Award–winning Chef RJ Cooper, who built his reputation at Rogue 24 in Washington, D.C. and a handful of acclaimed Nashville projects before landing here.

Alára Is the Quietest Opening in the Design District This Year

The Design District keeps stacking up new restaurants like it has something to prove, and at this point it basically does. Carbone, Delilah, Ospi, Maroma — the neighborhood has become its own dining destination in a way that would have been hard to predict five years ago. Alára, the new modern Mediterranean from Turkish-born chef Onur Akan, opened quietly into all of that noise about three weeks ago, and it may be the most personal restaurant in the bunch.

AM/FM Is the Best Thing to Happen to the Design District in Years

Ferris Wheeler’s ran for eight years on Market Center Boulevard before it closed last fall — a big backyard, a stage, cold beer, and barbecue. It was a good run. What replaced it is something harder to describe in a single sentence, which is usually a good sign.

AM/FM at 1950 Market Center Boulevard is an all-day diner, a lounge, and a backyard concert venue, and it operates as all three at the same time depending on the hour. It comes from Matthew Harber and Annette Marin, who own Spune Productions — a Dallas music and concert promotion company that books Club Dada, the Granada, Three Links, Sons of Herman Hall, and other venues around town. They had been involved with the Ferris Wheeler’s space since 2023 helping build out the live music side, and when the BBQ operation closed they took the whole thing over. The Ferris wheel is still there, by the way. It’s not rideable, but it lights up, and it is visible from the backyard stage on a Friday night in the way that only a non-functioning amusement ride in the middle of Dallas could be.

Omar Flores Behind Muchacho and Whistle Britches Opens Maroma in the Design District Today

Omar Flores grew up in El Paso helping his father run family restaurants. Not as a dishwasher, not clearing plates — actually in the kitchen, learning how things worked from the time he was old enough to hold a knife. That early start shaped everything that came after.

Ospi Opens in the Design District and the Pasta Alone Is Worth the Drive

Jackson Kalb was 13 years old the first time he walked into a real kitchen. Not his family’s kitchen — his parents, by his own admission, were not good home cooks. The kitchen he walked into was Mélisse in Santa Monica, a two-Michelin-star French restaurant, and he was there because a guest at one of his backyard catering gigs happened to know the chef. That chef was Josiah Citrin. He let the kid in.

Omar Flores Announces Maroma to Open May 4

Omar Flores has another one coming. Maroma, the latest project from Big Dill Hospitality and the Marshi family, opens Monday, May 4 in the Design District at 1333 Oak Lawn Avenue, on the ground floor of the new Thirteen Thirty Three Building. The premise is coastal Mexican cooking — ceviches, aguachiles, raw bar, mesquite-grilled meats — done with the kind of restraint Flores has been known for since his Driftwood and Whistle Britches years.
