The guest chef series continues at Battuto Italian Kitchen which is celebrating their one year anniversary. Last week we checked in with guest chef Scott Romano, and we enjoyed his take on Battuto Italian. This week owners Gene and Julie have invited their friend chef Andre Natera who just left Village Kitchen and Toko V for a job at Omni Austin. Chef Scott Romano Leads Anniversary Series At Battuto

Last night w checked in at Battuto Italian Kitchen, the fantastic Gene and Julie restaurant located up in the ‘burbs on Preston Road. The occasion was one of several marvelous evenings with a guest chef at the kitchen helm. Last night was first in the series, featuring chef Scott Romano who is now exec chef at the Frisco Gun Club. You may recall Romano’s stint at Charlie Palmers located at the Joule in Dallas. This evening was definitely a throwback to those days.    Continue reading

It is National Soup Month, and each week in January we will be featuring one of our DFW favorites, including a recipe. Today we are featuring Battuto’s Cauliflower and Garlic Soup that is super rich and delicious, but surprisingly has no cream. This is actually a super healthy 110 calorie soup option that Gene and Julie Gates serve at their restaurant throughout the year, but particularly wonderful now as it can take the edge off the wintry chill.

Battuto Offers Something Special

Battuto Italian Kitchen, the Italian neighborhood restaurant established by Gene and Julie Gates of radio fame held a media event this week and I was fortunate to be invited. It is rather different from what I expected. I thought it would be the objet d’amour of someone with a romantic fascination with Italy – a fascination that usually does not transfer well across corporeal units. What I found was a good restaurant, informed by modern culinary trends, but making a conscious effort to not just follow the pack. Take some examples:

They hired Joel Harloff as chef. He has produced first-rate food at several Dallas restaurants including the Melrose Hotel, Second Floor and Ocho.    Continue reading

First Look: Battuto Italian Kitchen

The Gene and Julie Gates restaurant, Battuto Italian Kitchen, is days away from opening and last night we were invited guests to check out the menu and to soak up the ambiance of the new North Dallas restaurant, and what we found you are going to fall in love with.

We were offered a small variety from the menu which includes house-made pastas, stone-fired pizzas, a variety of interesting salads and one particular entree that you will not care to miss.    Continue reading
