Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, invited about 100,000 people to his back yard in Palo Alto, California for a BBQ. You were invited if you happened to be on Facebook Sunday afternoon.

Namely the brands of grills and smokers he uses on a regular basis who got a huge plug, and a certain BBQ Sauce brand that will no doubt be emptied from shelves across the county, and ordered from around the world.   Continue reading

Last evening pitmaster Doug Pickering invited a group of guests into his Highland Park home for his very first bbq class. You recall Pickering from his stint at WORK. He appeared to be an overnight sensation, but has worked years at his craft perfecting his delicious take on ‘cue. Last evening Doug was joined by his long time friend and chef Scott Townend, formerly at Village Kitchen, but has a glorious resume working with some of the best chefs this country has to offer. What a delight to work hands on with these two talents. The pair have been collaborating on catering as of late, and have been invited into some pretty amazing homes recently to perform their duties in a big way.    Continue reading

Sharpen Your Grill Skill With Doug Pickering

doug1by Steven Doyle

I know you have not forgotten about pitmaster Doug Pickering who ran his catering business out of the now shuttered WORK in Deep Ellum. While we are all awaiting the announcement of his latest venture, you can get an up close and personal view of his techniques by checking out one of Doug’s grilling classes. This is a pretty neat way to sharpen your skills before summer hits.

Doug will be offering BGE School to the public at his home or yours. He will cover proper charcoal/wood loading techniques, in additional a full tutorial on the proper way to cook/trim/prep a brisket, and ribs, and of course you will get a full lesson on the art of ‪BBQ. Now is the time to act as the weather gets hotter you will lose your desire to perfect the grill.   Continue reading
