Inside The Wild Detectives, the Oak Cliff House That Turned Books and Booze into a Dallas Institution

Javier García del Moral and Paco Vique met as civil engineers, which is not the résumé line most people would guess for the two men behind Dallas’s most quietly influential bookstore. Both are Spanish, both landed in Texas separately, del Moral in Austin in 2008 and Vique in Dallas a year later, and both carried the same memory from home: Tipos Infames, a bookstore and wine bar in Madrid where literature and drinking shared the same room without either one feeling like an afterthought. When del Moral moved to Dallas in 2011, the two friends started planning a version of that idea for Oak Cliff, and on February 28, 2014, The Wild Detectives opened its doors in a 1940s Craftsman house on West 8th Street, just off the edge of Bishop Arts.

AM/FM a New Lounge and Diner Coming to Dallas in January 2026

AM/FM is opening in Dallas with early mornings, late nights, and a spirit that feels true to the city. Launching in January, the diner will open daily at 7 a.m., welcoming musicians coming off late sets, workers starting morning shifts, and neighbors looking for a place that feels familiar. Coffee refills come easily, the light is warm at sunrise, and as the day progresses, the room gradually shifts into a lounge with a pulse of its own.

Primo’s Takes Fine China Slot at Dallas Statler

Primo’s MX Kitchen & Lounge, which returned to North Texas with its Uptown location earlier this year, is planning a second location to open in early summer 2020 at Dallas’ Statler Hotel. Dean Fearing Tapped To Create Menu At DFW Airport

Word from Dean Fearing is that he has been consulting with American Express as they open luxury lounges throughout the country. The first lounge opened in Las Vegas, and this month they will be opening just such a lounge in Terminal D at DFW.

The new Amex Centurion Lounge are much swankier and nearly a destination to themselves. Available free to holders of the by-invitation-only Amex Centurion Card or for $50 a visit for other Amex card members, the club offers restaurant-quality meals and snacks, a high-end cocktail bar and sleek relaxation areas.

There are also quiet, private workspaces and all of the power and Internet connectivity needed to work productively before, after or between flights.    Continue reading
