The Henry Opens in Plano’s Legacy West on Oct. 21

When The Henry opened in Uptown in 2019, it quickly became the default answer for half the questions Dallas asks about where to eat. A business lunch, a birthday dinner, a Saturday brunch that runs long, and a coffee meeting that turns into a cocktail all ended up there. Seven years later, it’s still an Uptown fixture.

Now Plano gets its own. The Henry opens its second Dallas-Fort Worth location on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7700 Windrose Ave. in Legacy West, across the street from Legacy Hall. A grand opening celebration follows on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Austin’s MML Hospitality Is Coming to Dallas Six Restaurants Deep

Austin’s MML Hospitality spent years eyeing Dallas. Now it’s here, and it has a list.

The company is run by Larry McGuire, Tom Moorman and hotelier Liz Lambert. McGuire and Moorman opened their first Austin restaurant, Lamberts, in 2006. Today MML runs more than 25 properties in Austin, including the Michelin-recommended Jeffrey’s, plus hotels in New York and New Orleans and restaurants in Houston, Aspen and California.

McGuire has laid out the Dallas plan in order. Neighborhood Sushi comes first, then June’s All Day, then Clark’s Oyster Bar, then three Swedish Hill bakeries. That’s six restaurants in under 18 months, and he has said this could be the group’s last big expansion push.

French Laundry-Trained Chefs Open Insurgent at the Dallas Farmers Market This Fall

Sam and Gabby Lopez had the résumés for a traditional path. Both trained at The Culinary Institute of America. Both put in time at The French Laundry and Bouchon Bakery. Then they left corporate kitchen jobs in Chicago in January 2022, moved to Sam’s hometown of Denton and opened a food trailer.

They called it Insurgent, and it’s finally getting walls. The husband-and-wife chefs are opening their first permanent restaurant at the Dallas Farmers Market in late October, in the space at 920 S. Harwood St. that last housed Caribbean Cabana.

Fonda Toro Is Coming to Greenville Avenue and It’s Not What You’d Expect

Come November, the old Meyboom Brasserie spot on Greenville Avenue is going to look and feel like a completely different place. Fonda Toro moves in at 2100 Greenville Ave., and if you’ve been watching that corner since the Belgian beer hall closed last year, the wait is just about over.

The people behind it are Mauricio Gallegos and John Paul Valverde, both East Dallas residents, both with enough of a track record that this isn’t a gamble so much as a next move.

Bluebonnet & Thyme Opens, and Brunch Is the Meal to Book

Kendall Williams cooked her first Thanksgiving dinner by herself when she was thirteen. Whole meal, whole family, no help. That detail tells you more about the restaurant she just opened than anything on the menu does.

Bluebonnet & Thyme Southern Bistro & Bar is open at 2610 N. Houston St. in Victory Park, in the space that used to be Dirty Bones, right across from the arena. It’s her first brick-and-mortar after a decade of building a name in this city, and she calls the food a Cajun and Texas explosion, which is a fair description of what happens when Louisiana heritage runs into Lone Star cooking in the same kitchen.

Golden Leaf Opens on Forest Lane from the Original Owners of Shivas Bar & Grill

A new Indian restaurant has opened on Forest Lane, and the couple behind it may be familiar to longtime Dallas diners. Golden Leaf Bar & Grill recently opened at 8989 Forest Lane, from Sumathi and Ramesh Sundaram, the husband-and-wife team who opened the original Shivas Bar & Grill on Lower Greenville in 2014.

At Shivas, Sumathi was the chef and ran the kitchen while Ramesh handled the front of the house. Before coming to Dallas, the couple operated two restaurants in Lexington, Kentucky, Bombay Bar & Grill and Banana Leaf. They also spent about a decade living in Singapore before making their way to Dallas.

Hospitality Duo Opens Third Location in a Year – Cafe Olivita

Torry Cray and Adrian Verdin (we’ve followed Verdin through his hospitality career and he’s a keeper) have been on quite a run. Three restaurants in one year, all under the Café Olivia name, and this one might be the most interesting of the bunch. Café Olivita opens in early October at Park Center in Plano, and it’s not just a smaller version of the original. It’s Café Olivia rethinking what it means to serve an office building.

Élephante to Bring Coastal Southern Italian Dining to Uptown Dallas September 1

Élephante opens its doors in Uptown Dallas on September 1, and the whole idea behind it traces back to a rock. Back in the summer of 2014, Wish You Were Here Group founder Nicholas Mathers was traveling through Pantelleria, a small volcanic island off the coast of Sicily, when he came across a natural stone formation called the Arco dell’Elefante, a shape carved by wind and water that stretches out into the sea like an elephant reaching for a drink.

That image stuck with him. It became the name, and more than that, it became the whole feeling the restaurant has spent years trying to bottle: long afternoons, unhurried food, the particular kind of ease that only shows up when nobody’s checking a watch.
