What started as a call of concern between Alice Laussade and Andrea Grimes, both of whom worked for the Dallas Observer, took a spin for the gallant as the message of concern of this weekend’s detainees and the nearly 30 attorneys at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. These people needed to be fed.
An eventual call to Amy Cowan, owner of Oddfellows in Oak Cliff and to her chef Anastacia Quinones started the wheels in motion for an operation that lasted a good part of a Sunday afternoon during an extremely busy brunch service at their restaurant. Continue reading

Barbecue has to be one of the most satisfying meals a Texan could ever wish to enjoy. And nothing says barbecue like the big beef rib at Lockhart Smokehouse located in Oak Cliff (Bishop Arts) and downtown Plano. As the name would imply, it is big, it is bountiful and it is meaty.
Forget the holiday turkey, your table needs to be adorned with beefy ribs, brisket and whole smoked chickens (the latter at a bargain rate of a mere twelve bucks for an entire yard bird). Add an armload of meat-filled deviled eggs, smoked baked beans and some crunchy blue cheese slaw and you have a feast for the masses. Continue reading

Fast-casual format restaurant, bbbop Seoul Kitchen R&D, will open in Oak Cliff on Monday, December 14th for lunch and dinner, after a few days allocated to private soft opening and mock services. Located at 828 W. Davis Street, this is the result of Steve Shin with Sandra and Greg Bussey’s elevated recipes for the bbbop Seoul Kitchen brand. Specific to the Oak Cliff location is the R&D name, menu, to-go window for the fried chicken, full bar with cocktails and rustic playful design. Guests will also enjoy what is intended to be a bustling patio, boche ball court and interior bar while also catering to local residents looking for affordable family-friendly neighborhood dining options. Dan Pearson stumbled upon an unusual tree while working in Peru supplying miners with food. Pearson didn’t know it at the time, but what he found was the legendary white cacao bean called Pure Nacional. The bean lacks the typical bitterness found in most strains of the bean, and has an intense floral flavor. Continue reading
