Miss Chi Is Cute And She Can Cook

SONY DSCby Steven Doyle

There appears to be a new restaurant power couple developing restaurants at break neck speeds in Dallas. Opening their first restaurant, Wicked Po Boy, back in June of 2012, Lan Chi and Joey Le have since opened Tanoshii Ramen + Bar successfully in Deep Ellum this past September.  Less than a month ago Miss Chi was introduced in Preston Center, and based on the crowds we witnessed on several occasions, the latest restaurant is a huge success. We have loved and enjoyed each concept, and Miss Chi certainly falls into those ranks.

Miss Chi is all about the Vietnamese food, which Dallas has embraced openly. The Pho phenomenon has escalated to the point where a bowl of the savory broth is simply part of the weekly rotation for many. The pho at Miss Chi will warm your cockles with its complex flavors, and tender bits of beast including rare slices of steak, tender meatballs and sultry tendon. The soup is garnished with chopped onions and herbs, and served with the usual basil, bean sprouts and wedges of lime. This is truly a delicious bowl of pho.    Continue reading

Mi Piaci Still Has What It Takes After All These Years

squid-inkby Steven Doyle

Back in late August Mi Piaci opened its location in Preston Center in the former Ocho location, and the response has been overwhelmingly incredible. This is where the neighborhood is looking to dine on fresh pasta according to local buzz. This is what Mi Piaci does best. We sent ace photographer, Robert Bostick, out to nab us a first look and his photos made us so hungry we immediately went out to sample a few of the dishes on our own. A few months have passed and the crowds seem larger, and the food is still what we would expect out of this 25 year old institution in Dallas.

The pasta is still handmade by the chef who arrives as early as 5am to start is handy work. The breads are also all house-made with similar start times. The staff looks remarkably familiar, and that is because they have all been with the restaurant for many years after having been transferred from the location on Montfort just before the August opening.    Continue reading

Preston Center Wicked Po Boy Rumored To Become Pho Restaurant

phoby Steven Doyle

Late August we shared the fact that Wicked Po Boy closed in Preston Center. Chi and Joey Le, owners of the groovy NOLA inspired restaurant, which was located at 6030 Luther Lane, were suffering through the fact that there wasn’t a big enough dinner crowd to sustain the shop even though lunches proved to be highly successful. Now we catch rumors that a retooling is underway to bring pho to the center.   Continue reading

Wicked Po Boy In Preston Center Closed

FOT407by Steven Doyle

Chi and Joey Le, owners of Wicked Po Boy located at 6030 Luther Lane in Preston Center have shuttered with a sign that explains they are remodeling just months after opening the restaurant in April. Inside sources say that luncheon service was terrific but lacked a proper dinner crowd that would help sustain an expensive piece of property.

A remodel will ensue but we have been told there be a re-concepting to capture evening clientele. Look for an announcement as early as next week.

Masala Wok Opening In Preston Center

masalaby Steven Doyle

One of our favorite fast casual Indian spots Masala Wok just signed a lease for a 2,465-square-foot space at Preston Center in Dallas.  The retail center is located at the southwest quadrant of West Northwest Highway and Preston Road. This is near Rathbun’s Blue Plate, Spoon and Hopdoddy Burger Bar. Masala is known for its quickie orders of Chicken Tikka Masala, some Chinese wokkery and a fine version of naan.  Masala Wok is scheduled to open in October.

This is a great addition to the fast growing foodie neighborhood.

Capriotti Sandwich Shop Opens In Preston Center

the bobbieby Steven Doyle

A new Capriotti Sandwich Shop opened today in Preston Center, 6112 Luther Lane in Dallas. Look for fresh subs, sandwiches and salads. The restaurant gets high praise for their vegetarian options such as their cheesesteak and a “turkey” sandwich.

Specialty sandwiches include The Bobbie, which is their best seller made with fresh roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and mayonnaise. One of our favorites includes the SlawBeJoe made with homemade roast beef, provolone, Russian dressing, and Cole slaw.

Hours are Monday through Friday from 7am to 9pm, Saturday 8am to 9pm, and Sunday 8am to 7pm.
