The Hawaiian Shrimp Chain That Started in an Old Ambulance Lands in Dallas

In February 2016, Isaac and Lauren Hadley spent what savings they had on an old ambulance. They hauled it into Isaac’s parents’ backyard, stripped it down, and repainted it into something that no longer looked like it belonged to a hospital. What came out the other end was a food truck, and what it served was Hawaiian-style shrimp plates built on flavors the Hadleys had picked up during four years at BYU-Hawaii, where they’d fallen for the shrimp trucks lining Oahu’s North Shore.

Flying Fish is a Catch

The Flying Fish looks and feels like it has been in business since the post war era but in fact Shannon Wynne designed and opened his first casual seafood restaurant in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2002. The Flying Fish serves catfish, shrimp, oysters, crawfish and other seafood. Wynne expanded the restaurant throughout North Texas with locations in Addison, Dallas, Garland, Fort Worth, and Arlington. There is also a location in Memphis, Tennessee. All equally as tacky as the very first location in the land of Clinton’s, but so much more savory. Continue reading →

Seafood Shack Still Full of Surprises

Seafood Shack on Webbs Chapel very near Forest Lane has been a long tradition for lunch, with big flavors that are fairly easy on the wallet. So is true for the newer and prettier version located on Northwest Highway and Marsh Lane. The latter offers a full bar, an airy patio and many more seats.

A recent visit for dinner netted some great finds included what they called fried octopus, which gave us odd visions of a heavy battered fish. Instead, we found the dish to be light with a crispy sautee, punctuated with chunks of onion and tomato. This dish fell supreme on our palate.   Continue reading →

The journey is long and arduous, filled with Kraft slices and pre-formed burger patties that have long expired in the depths of their freezer banks. But then there are the gems, the holy grail of burgers. Not many, maybe a dozen in toto found around our fair city. These are the burgers we hold dear, and we love to share with you month in and out. First Look: Shell Shack For Late Night Crabs

Shell Shack is the newest addition to McKinney Avenue and is located where The Stand was at 2916 McKinney, and is owned by the same fellows that operate The Back 9 Bar and Grill in Addison. It is also located next to Pozo and Standard Pour, on the same side of the avenue. The new restaurant is a fantastic late night spot for cocktails, a few well chosen beers and seafood. The stars of the show are the variety of crabs, boiled in bag with a heavy hand on the spice rack for this crazy and delicious flavor that makes you want more.
