Local Yocal BBQ & Grill is bringing the taste of the State Fair to McKinney with made-from-scratch gourmet corn dogs created by Chef Adam West. Everything is bigger in Texas, and these fair-inspired corn dogs are made with a half-pound of house-made sausage from Local Yocal Farm to Market, then dipped in a scratch beer batter to provide the perfect crunch. Local Yocal’s limited edition corn dogs will be served with a choice of a side for $12 and will be available for lunch and dinner through the run of the State Fair of Texas, September 27 through October 20.
Abel Gonzales is best known as the fried food king at the State Fair of Texas. You have no doubt had the fried Coke, fried lobster, and even his special brisket tamales during that season. Good chance you have even been to Republic Ranch on Ross Avenue which serves up brisket, chicken fried steak and other comforting dishes (Abel sold this share of that concept to his investors). Due to inclement weather faced during this year’s State Fair of Texas, Fair officials have decided to extend hours for closing weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The Fair is adding hours on both Saturday and Sunday to allow fairgoers to come out and celebrate all things Texan before the 2018 State Fair closes for good on Sunday night. Continue reading

That’s why the State Fair of Texas is proud to announce their newest creations! Fairgoers have the chance to taste the finalists and winners of the 2018 Big Tex Choice Awards but can also indulge in some of the competition’s semi-finalist dishes. Semi-finalists who don’t make it to the awards ceremony can choose to add their dish to their menu that year.

It’s that time of year again! State Fair concessionaires are off to the races with a new lineup of incredible, edible innovations for the public to taste. The 14th Annual Big Tex® Choice Awards, presented by Vistaprint, is sure to offer a bite that pleases every appetite. From savory snacks to sweet treats, 2018’s assortment will not disappoint! Food has been at the heart of the State Fair of Texas since the gates first opened in 1886. Since 2005, each year State Fair concessionaires cook up tasty and unique foods for a chance to become a finalist in the Big Tex Choice Awards.
A group of contestants presented their creations to the State Fair of Texas in August. The field has been narrowed to eight. A panel of judges will pick winners in the two categories – Best Tasting & Most Creative.
