One of my favorite galleries for cutting edge contemporary art is Red Arrow Contemporary. This particular gallery not only represents artworks from leading artist like Shepard Fairey, Vernon Fisher, and Gary Sweeney, but they also are leading the trends in the art world by making the gallery space interactive.
On Saturday, February 16th, Red Arrow Contemporary located at 1130 Dragon Street, will be celebrating their one year anniversary of being open. During last year’s grand opening exhibition “L.A. Street Scene Show: Modern Multiples” this space created postal mailboxes inspired by the artist Banksy, creating a tribute to the artist accomplishments. Although their version is more “Pranksy” than “Banksy” these mailboxes were a big hit! Understanding a good thing is worth experiencing twice, the gallery is bringing back these mailboxes for everyone to enjoy again, but there is a subtle twist.
This year the mailboxes will be displayed in the courtyard of their gallery, to generate interest of being used! Red Arrow Contemporary will be providing post cards during their one year celebration with intentions of creating messages, which will make the gallery’s staff smile. They are known on their Facebook page for displaying post card messages from their artist friend Gary Sweeney and because of this, the gallery is looking to get frequent visitors to interact with them.
Using the upcoming openings post cards as a way to give small fame to the locals on their Facebook Page will help spread the word that art is subjective and we all need it in our lives! Remember don’t be late to join the gallery on their accomplishments because there will be a free gift bag for the first 20 people who walk through the door.
