The residents of Lake Highlands in northeast Dallas have very few options to dine within a short drive, but the list is growing. In part two of our ongoing series we share with you a brand new opening, a remodeled pizza joint, and some good news regarding future openings.
Cedar & Vine Community Kitchen
Recently opened in the space that used to house Neighbor’s Casual Kitchen at Walnut Hill and Audelia, Cedar & Vine already has a wait for tables nightly. Area diners are excited about the lively bar and dining room, as well as the outdoor-indoor heated space. Lake Highlands residents are behind the helm, taking advantage of a lack of spots like this in the area. The twelve-seat bar (and a second one in the adjoining outdoor/indoor area) serves specialty cocktails, draft wines, and a rotating selection of local craft beers on tap. The diverse menu of apps, salads, soups, sandwiches, sides and large plates has something for everyone, including vegetarians. Ask your server about the daily chef special. High chairs and changing stations make this kid friendly in the early hours, while later it caters to the adult crowd. The bar has been two-deep by 7:30pm both times we’ve dined. Open seven days a week.

Lake Highlands Town Center
Jersey Mike’s Subs opened in December, and residents are patiently awaiting the opening of Fish City Grill, Taco Diner, and Starbucks. Fish City is promoting a grand opening and ribbon cutting event on February 6th. Expect a line out the door by 6:30pm if the Preston/Royal location is any indication. Taco Diner opens in March, but Starbucks has not announced a date at this time.
Louisiana Crab Shack
Louisiana Crab Shack has opened in the space that used to house Papas Crab at Skillman and Royal. They offer a similar menu of crab, oysters, shrimp, catfish (please don’t be swai!), wings and chicken. Four styles of flavoring and levels of heat. Beer and wine available.
