Review: Bombay Sizzlers in Las Colinas

In our long journey to discover the ideal Indian-style restaurant in the Dallas area we were directed this week to yet another offering in the Las Colinas area. Irving and the surrounding region is a hot bed for delicious Desi cuisine. This week we ventured to one called Bombay Sizzlers, now located at 397 E. Las Colinas Blvd. We say now because they recently moved from a freestanding location nearby that was razed to make way for yet another service station. In speaking with the owners they seemed much more pleased with their new plush environment.

The name Sizzlers might make the average long time American conjure up visions of a bad steakhouse, but be assured this is not the case. Sizzlers actually refers to a long list of menu items that come table side sizzling hot and steaming much like you might find a platter of fajitas. By long list we mean a very long list of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items. There are many chicken, kebabs and seafood items available in the sizzling department, and we chose the Cornish hens as we have not seen this item on any Indian menu in the Dallas area. The platter came to the table sizzling hot and smothered in onions and peppers. The hen was smothered in a tangy and spicy marinade and was actually prepared in a clay pot before given the “sizzling” treatment. Very delicious.

You will also find a variety of curries listed under Bollywood Specials. These are all vegetarian, and make an excellent choice for omnivores and vegetarians alike.

We always choose similar items to compare these restaurants. Always ordering the saag paneer, a spicy spinach dish dosed with chunks of freshly made cheese (paneer). We also order the chicken tikka masala, which is the most popular dish in the states to order at an Indian restaurant. Consider these a litmus test, and each passed exceptionally.

Of course you will find a wide range of naan, parathas, and stuffed breads to enjoy with your courses. There is also a vast selection of desserts including kulfis and other expected items.

If you are looking for a more Indian experience, we highly suggest Sizzlers sister restaurant, Bombay Chowpatty which we reviewed some months ago. As with most Indian restaurants, Sizzlers has a luncheon buffet.
