Escondido Tex-Mex Patio: Bringing Tex-Mex Back to Preston Royal this Winter

Jon Alexis, owner of TJ’s Seafood at the same intersection, is bringing Tex-Mex back to Preston Royal this winter with Escondido Tex-Mex Patio.

The new restaurant is set to open winter 2022 at 5950 Royal Lane A, in the southwest corner previously occupied by Ruggeri’s.

Alexis is the owner of the beloved Malibu Poke and TJ’s Seafood Markets. For the next phase of his career, Alexis has formed a new restaurant group called Imperial Fizz, which will focus on an even broader audience. “We’re not in the seafood business,” states Alexis. “We are really good at building community-supported restaurants. Our new concepts focus on bringing back the old fashioned hospitality to neighborhood dining.”

Alexis adds, “TJ’s has served Preston Royal and Preston Hollow since 1989 – to say we have long-standing relationships with these diners is an understatement. When we discovered Tex-Mex was leaving Preston Royal, we knew we had to bring it back.”

Escondido will offer a menu of family-friendly Tex-Mex classics including nachos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas and more. “We’re not re-writing the Tex-Mex playbook” says Alexis. “This is the food I crave the most. It’s all about the details – sizzling fajitas, warm chips that are thin but don’t crack, fresh lime juice in the drinks, etc.”

Escondido will feature a resort-style indoor/outdoor bar on the largest patio in Preston Hollow, featuring Mexican tile, lush landscaping and seating for 75 diners.

Directly off of Royal Lane, Escondido will feature a dedicated “To Go” window for easy pick ups. “Friends coming over? Chips, queso and gallons of margaritas are minutes away,” assures Alexis.

Designed by Duncan & Miller Design, the interior has a fun and festive feel with cozy booths, floral elements, Mexican tile, vibrant otomi artwork (Mexican embroidery), dramatic wrought iron lighting, and string lights.
