Fistful of Bourbon to Launch on September 1st

Combining the arts and science behind whiskey blending, Scotland’s own Kelsey McKechnie has perfected the craft of bourbon. McKechnie, a blender at William Grant & Sons, has created Fistful of Bourbon, a 100 percent straight American whiskey consisting of five bourbons. These two-year aged bourbons when combined together pack a potent, powerful punch.

At a preview party, selected writers and influencers were invited to try a selection of Fistful of Bourbon-based cocktails at Trick Pony in Deep Ellum. Continue reading

Cocktails For The Holidays

As the holiday season continues we plan on posting recipes for a variety of cool party cocktails to entertain your guests with, and to hone those bartending skills. Today we have several recipes, one from Basil Hayden and the other from one of our favorite scotch whiskeys, Laphroaig.

The Laphroaig distillery is arguably the most famous distillery on Islay. The island itself is famous for its pungent, peaty malts.

Bourbon Dinner at The Ranch in Las Colinas Was Hosted by Drew Mayville

This past weekend Bonnie Wilson, who oversees the beverage program at The Ranch in Las Colinas, Whiskey Cake and Mexican Sugar, invited Drew Mayville, Master Blender at Buffalo Trace in for a special evening dining paired with some pretty special bourbons. To start the evening Wilson created a beautiful cocktail to get our palates started, but be there no doubt that the night would be filled with first rate bourbon finished off with one of the fine cigars that the Ranch offers in their large humidor.

Drew Mayville joined Buffalo Trace Distillery in 2004 as Director of Quality, Processing and Blanton Manufacturing Operations. Since he joined the distillery, he has worked hands-on with the award-winning whiskies produced at Buffalo Trace. Mayville regaled the crowd with information on the making and blending of the variety in the Sazerac line up which included Buffalo Trace, Blanton’s, Eagle Rare, Thomas Handy Sazerac Rye, E.H. Taylor Single Barrel and Stagg Jr.    Continue reading

Beer, Bourbon and Brisket Festival September 28

Jack FM just announced the inaugural Beer, Bourbon & Brisket Festival which will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Panther Island Pavilion, 395 Purcey St.

The event is BYOT (Bring Your Own Tube), for cooling off in the river while sampling BBQ.  Vendors will include Daddy Rex’s Twisted BBQ, Holmes Smokehouse, North Main BBQ, Smokey’s BBQ, Robust Energy Drink, Unpredictable Snow Cones and Sam Adams.

The craft beer and bourbon tasting tent will feature beer sampling by Samuel Adams, Deep Ellum Brewing Company, Community Beer Company, Lakewood Brewing Company, Mendocino Brewing Company and Woodchuck Hard Cider.  Spirit samples will include Angels’ Envy Kentucky Bourbon, Forty Creek Whiskey and Texas Silver Star Whiskey.    Continue reading
