The Boiling Crab Wait Is Well Worth The Prize

bc3.jpgby Steven Doyle

We are still enjoying the seafood season as the crawfish continue to grow larger, and the crabs are ever so sweet. Boiling Crab in Dallas near Garland seems to always be busy with lines starting at least thirty minutes before opening, and on super nice days as much as an hour with guests toting lawn chairs and sipping mystery drinks as they eagerly await a mess of crawfish, a myriad of crabs, shrimp and even lobster steamed in a bag packed full of seasoning.

Here the phrase is “The Whole Shabang”, which means all the spices in the house mixed with butter. , is a common notion. This is the holy grail of boils in Dallas. Continue reading

It is mudbug season again and we will be reporting on the best places to enjoy crawfish for the next few weeks. The bugs are bodacious this year so don’t miss out!

We checked out the Ragin’ Crab recently and thought the crawfish were perfectly delicious. These people have their cooking methods down, and the sauce with a kicking spice for any level you prefer (or none). Continue reading

Seafood Shack Still Full of Surprises

seafood-shack1by Steven Doyle

Seafood Shack on Webbs Chapel very near Forest Lane has been a long tradition for lunch, with big flavors that are fairly easy on the wallet. So is true for the newer and prettier version located on Northwest Highway and Marsh Lane. The latter offers a full bar, an airy patio and many more seats.

A recent visit for dinner netted some great finds included what they called fried octopus, which gave us odd visions of a heavy battered fish. Instead, we found the dish to be light with a crispy sautee, punctuated with chunks of onion and tomato. This dish fell supreme on our palate.   Continue reading

Maggiano’s Offers New Brunch Items

magg1by Trey Moran

I had the pleasure of sampling the upcoming brunch menu at Maggiano’s Little Italy at Northpark this past weekend and from what they presented it should be a hit.  I’m not much for the big chain restaurants but I have always enjoyed Maggiano’s. The food is always on point and there is always an energetic atmosphere.  And it is always a good place to end up after hiking Northpark all day.   Continue reading

Shell Shack Opening Second Location in Plano This March

shell shackby Steven Doyle

The much loved Uptown seafood haunt, Shell Shack, is set to open its door in Plano sometime in March. The latest location is situated at Park and the Tollway, a popular hot spot for many new restaurants. We spoke today with one of the partners of Shell Shack, Dallas Hale, and he said that the equipment has already been delivered, all licenses were in place (typically the largest obstacle for any bar or restaurant), and he is just waiting for the build out to be finished and to train a new staff. This is exciting news for those that love spicy crabs, shrimp, and crawfish.   Continue reading
