T’Juanna Winters (called Lil’ Lizzie by her family) learned to bake at the feet of grandmother, Elizabeth Jones. She always loved being in the kitchen and bringing joy to others through the foods her family created together but never considered turning her love of culinary arts into a career. At the urging of family and friends, Winters launched Lizzie Lu Luxury Treats in December 2019 to honor her grandmother’s belief that if you do good, you’ll do well. The store was an immediate hit, but T’Juanna was forced to shutter her doors just a few months after the opening due to the pandemic.Continue reading

You may have heard of the legendary Sprinkles Cupcake ATM located just outside the Sprinkles shop in Preston Center near Northwest Highway. This fun device is where you can get your cupcake on in the middle of the night when the city appears to be abandoned and free of delightful pastries.

In 2011 TrailerCakes co-owners Heather Zidell and Leora Azoulay Lesh found a suffering 1965 Tradewind Airstream trailer in a small town in Ohio which would soon become Bubbles, the cupcake toting trailer that spewed tiny bubbles from its posterior and tiny cupcakes from as side compartment window.
Acquiring Bubbles was actually by accident on eBay. After placing a bid in the auction, the ladies didn’t realize that the trailer was full of gaping holes. Or that the owner lives on a middle-of-nowhere ranch in Ohio. Continue reading

Last evening Chef DAT, owner of Twenty-Seven, opened his doors to a unique chef in her own right right, Annie West. The event was a small gathering which was perfect for the Deep Ellum location. The event was as unique as DAT’s restaurant, which is typically closed on a Sunday evening. Chef West had this brilliant plan to offer a special tasting of cupcakes, or cuppies as she calls them, with beer.
Now to look at West you would not think she even drank beer, but she does enjoy a nice brew on occasion, and last night she shared some of her local favorites along with some delicious hand-made treats.
