Americano to Open at Joule in October

The Joule Hotel expands their restaurant offerings this fall with the opening of Americano. The vibrant, casual neighborhood restaurant will feature a seasonally inspired menu by Chef Matt Ford with creative interpretations of Italian-American classics.

Named for the classic Campari cocktail, Americano pays homage to Roman classic Caffe Greco and ‘the sweet life’ portrayed in the 1960 Fellini film La Dolce Vita. The bold olive-green interior, marble-topped bar with curved bronze mirrors, and Donald Judd inspired minimalist furniture create a playful, energetic atmosphere with cinematic feel. The Mitchell Soft Opens Tonight

That incredible space once occupied by Eddie “Lucky” Campbell’ The Chesterfield, located at 1404 Main Street in downtown Dallas, has been converted into yet another opulent cocktail lounge, The Mitchell. With a complete revamp consisting of new wallpaper, chandeliers, seating and a few other kicked up beauty tricks, The Mitchell is set to soft open tonight, and the crowd is expected to be large0. Owned and operated by a group called Buffalo and Hare, The Mitchell is overseen by their new corporate chef Brian Zenner, formerly exec at Oak and Belly & Trumpet.

The exec chef duties at The Mitchell will be handled daily by Rudy Mendoza who worked with Zenner at Belly & Trumpet and was lead line at the Mansion. The menu looks pretty exciting and features several beautiful oysters which are currently East Coast Duxbury’s and Bagaduce’s. Along with oysters the menu also features a classic caviar service replete with accouterments. You may select from four varieties including a domestic Spoonbill, Italian Giaveri White Sturgeon, a Belgium Gold Label Osetra and a Sterlet White Pearl. Dallas Chop House Is On Fire *Updated

A few readers who work downtown have reported that Dallas Chop House is currently on fire. The reports sent to us and confirmed via the Dallas Fire Department is that the three alarm fire called to the Comerica Building at 1717 Main Street approximately at 2:20pm today is still currently being worked. T

On Thursday, October 10, Consilient Hospitality debuts CBD Provisions, a modern Texas brasserie in the heart of historic downtown Dallas adjacent to The Joule Hotel. Led by Executive Chef Michael Sindoni, the restaurant celebrates the natural bounty and culinary traditions of Texas with a contemporary point of view, a commitment to local and sustainable sourcing, and a passion for making things in house with expert technique and superb ingredients.

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, with brunch on weekends, emblematic dishes at CBD Provisions include broiled Gulf oysters with absinthe-whipped lardo; little goat pies with stout braised cabrito; braised tripe with chorizo; head on shrimp and grits with ‘nduja; roasted Gulf amberjack with homestead grains tabouleh; and the soon-to-be famed Berkshire pig head carnitas. Maharaja’s Feast At Samar Jan 23

Stephan Pyle’s Samar is one of my very favorite restaurants. It reflects on how I dine, or like to dine. I do not normally sit down in front of a giant haunch of beef, in fact the last steakhouse I went to I appreciated the fish of the day. How I do like to dine is with a group of friends surrounded by more than a few plates of food, paired with fantastic drinks or a good bottle of wine. Continue reading →

The Greek Opens In One Arts Plaza Monday *Update

The Greek will open its doors this Monday, October 15, 2012 just in time for lunch service. Look for Look for inexpensive pitas such as the sliced leg of lamb on a grilled pita, onions and Ziziki sauce, or steak and egg with grilled skirt steak, polenta and an over-easy egg.

We sat with owner Mary Cloutier-Arabatzis, who with her chef husband also own Ziziki’s three locations throughout Dallas, and she was excited about the newest location in One Arts Plaza which formerly housed The Commissary. Mary took us on a tour of the new restaurant which has expanded to serve just over 70-seats indoors and about half as many outdoors on one of the two patios. Continue reading →
