Moose Report: Brass Knuckle Challenge At Libertine

IMG_6728by Alex “Moose” Perez

It should come to no surprise that I would write about a food competition, one that I hold very dearly to my heart. Three years ago, I was sitting at The Libertine Bar on Greenville Ave when I was handed information about this Brass Knuckle Challenge. Upon reading it further, and knowing that I was eager to get my first food competition out of the way, I quickly learned it was a corn dog eating competition at The Libertine. This was my first food competition that had me hooked from that point on, and one that I eagerly look forward to each year.    Continue reading

The Moose Report – Eating Competition At Taco Joint July 4

jointby Alex “Moose” Perez

The Taco Joint which is located just off Mockingbird Ln. in Dallas will be hosting its 3rd Annual Taco Eating Competition.  This  is always a spectacle to watch as competitors were given the opportunity to chomp down on as many of Taco Joint tacos as they could get down their gullet in a specified time.  Last year as soon as the winner was crowned he was quick to lean over the guard rail and release the winning tacos, much to the crowd’s dismay.  For sure nothing anyone wants to witness, but it is part of what makes these competitions so entertaining to witness.

We shall see what other lovely surprises the competition has waiting for us this year.   Continue reading

If you would like to create  a competition at your business, contact the Moose at craveDFW.

My first question when I first heard of this local food competition was “what in the heck is a DANK?” Upon reading about what it was all about, I knew this was something I wanted to share with our readers, and possible future eaters. Of course, I was deeply saddened knowing that under my contract restrictions, I would not be able to compete, but why not inform others of this feat.    Continue reading

Alex Perez Speaks Out About the Spicy Chili Donut Contest at Hypnotic

by Alex Perez

I get asked all the time, “Alex, why do you do the crazy things you do like food competitions?”  I tell them that besides enjoying pain and suffering, I actually enjoy chowing down the food.  That brings me to this past Saturday’s event held at Hypnotic Donuts in East Dallas – The Spicy Chile Donut Eating Contest.  I normally cancel everything to commit and do as many food competitions as possible but due to the conflicting dates of a pre-existing event, I was not going to attend the donut challenge.  So I thought.  I must admit that I was a tad saddened about not being able to compete in the Spicy Donut competition, but that all changed Friday morning.

I received news Friday from a friend that we were in fact not going on our planned trip and quickly made the decision to email Hypnotic Donuts to sign up for the challenge.  The owner of Hypnotic, James, responded quickly and confirmed I had a spot in the competition. It was on.          Continue reading
