Range, a new modern American chophouse from acclaimed San Antonio chef and restaurateur Jason Dady, opens its doors along Downtown San Antonio’s Riverwalk today, Monday, October 2, 2017. Wild Salsa now has three locations in the DFW area including the original downtown Dallas, Fairview, and the latest located at 300 Throckmorton in Fort Worth. This is good news for those looking for seriously good Mexican cuisine including their crazy good tacos, a tamale that will bring tears to any grown aficionado and over 100 tequilas to raise your spirits.
Our most recent visit was to the downtown Dallas location which is located at 1800 Main Street across from their sister restaurant Dallas Chop House. There we found Chef Katie who we soon discovered is not only a fantastic savory chef, but has extreme skills in the pastry department which is unusual as most chefs choose a path and excel at it. In Katie’s case she just excels.
Wild Salsa has these fresh flavors and authentic takes on Mexican not found at your local Tex Mex haunt, these dishes are serious. Look at the al pastor tacos, or perhaps the redfish sizzled ala plancha. Continue reading

For the life of Mico Rodriguez he has done nothing more than try to please us all. Early on in his career you know he was responsible for bringing us what is now the behemoth M Crowds restaurant group which own Mi Cocina et al. A bout with alcoholism took this company away from him and left his to his own devices and went about to correcting this portion of his storied life. Now, the man who is responsible for changing the way we dine in Dallas, nay, most of the Tex Mex dining world is clean, sober and taking back his stake in the dining market through his company that owns Mesero and its little sister Mr Mesero. You taste, you sample, you play judge and vote for your favorite margarita. The best margaritas from the DFW area will be at one location. Savor won last year. Pie 314, Asador, Soleo, Whiskey Cake and Iron Cactus won previous years. You decide which margarita is the best at the Dallas Margarita Meltdown.
Competitors will concoct their finest margarita and offer samples during the competition from 4pm-7pm in the West End of Downtown Dallas, TX. The winner will be announced at 8pm. The event ends at 9pm. Continue reading

For many years Primo’s Tex Mex was the quintessential hot spot for hanging out late night to enjoy a good amount of enchiladas and even more tequila. The McKinney Avenue haunt stocked plenty of tequila brands for those searching for a way to wash down baskets of chips and guacamole. This was the heyday for the brand until owner Eddie Cervantes eventually sold, and it soon closed after 28 years of solid service. Cervantes went on to open E Bar on Haskell and that hot spot on McKinney became So&So’s which is enjoying plenty of hot action of their own.
Dallas had lost a legend until more recently when twin brothers Mark and Dirk Kelcher revived the restaurant in the Dallas Design District. The brothers are talented operators who come with plenty of experience including Metro Grill, and even more recently part of the new ownership at Cedars Social. Their roots rival that of the original Primo’s and as caretakers of the name they have honored the tradition backed by slurpy good drinks and the same enchiladas once served to the many patrons on the McKinney Avenue location. With just weeks under their belt, the owners of the newly opened Quesa is enjoying a good crowd from the neighborhood at their 3900 Cedar Springs location in Dallas. Actually the full name is Quesa: Mexican Street Food, and that is as about an accurate description as you will find. Owned by Patricia and Francisco Cabrera, both new to the restaurant world, moved to the States five years ago. Patricia’s sister owns Taco Stop on Irving Blvd just south of the Design District.
