Last-Minute Ways to Help Neighbors in Need in Dallas This Holiday Season

As Christmas nears and the year draws to a close, there are still meaningful ways to support individuals and families facing food insecurity, financial hardship and homelessness across the Dallas area. Local nonprofits are continuing their holiday outreach and winter assistance efforts through the end of December — and residents can step in with time, food, gifts or financial support.

Dallas College Expands Food Pantry Efforts Amid SNAP Benefit Disruptions and Government Shutdown

In response to the ongoing U.S. government shutdown and the resulting suspension of SNAP benefits, Dallas College is stepping up to support local families by hosting two emergency food pantries on Saturday, November 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The effort comes through a partnership between Dallas College and the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), expanding on the college’s existing monthly drive-thru pantry program that rotates between campuses. These extra pantry days are open to everyone—no ID required—and will operate at two locations:

Norma’s Cafe Partners with The North Texas Food Bank

Dallas’ comfort food icon, Norma’s Cafe, is keeping with decades of tradition by giving back to those in need this holiday season through its Gather & Give program. With each guest purchase of a Holiday Family Dinner for 6-8 people, Norma’s will donate six meals to the North Texas Food Bank from now until Dec. 23.  

The Holiday Family Meal goes on pre-sale Sept. 25, with full dinners for 6-8 people starting at a family affordable price of $115.00. The holiday dinner includes a choice of the following: (1) whole smoked  turkey, (1 pan) of smoked sliced or oven-roasted turkey breast, (1) spiral cut glazed ham, (1) prime oven  roast with au jus and horseradish, with (2) quarts of cornbread dressing, (2) quarts of mashed potatoes, (2)  quarts of green beans, and (1) quart of giblet gravy. Also included are the cranberry sauce, a dozen rolls,  and Norma’s classic 10-inch pumpkin pie. Specialty items are also available for additional purchase  including green bean casserole, bacon mac-n-cheese, broccoli rice casserole and much more.

2021 Restaurant Week Results

The delicious results are in.  Last summer North Texans dined out for a cause with DFW Restaurant Week 2021 presented by your Metroplex Cadillac Dealers, raising $428,516 in charitable donations benefiting the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) and Lena Pope.

The campaign also generated much needed business for local restaurants during pandemic recovery and is recognizing top participation with the announcement of its annual DFW Restaurant Week Star Restaurant Awards presented by Beef Loving Texans (Texas Beef Council). DFW Restaurant Week, the Metroplex’s largest annual culinary event, will return for its highly anticipated 25th anniversary campaign in August 2022.

Centre Teams Up With Dallas Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott to Support North Texas Food Bank

Centre, known as one of the best spots to find the perfect pair of kicks, announced today it will continue to support the Dallas-Fort Worth community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Centre and Ezekiel Elliott decided to team up and launch an exclusive apparel collection consisting of t-shirts, hoodies and sweat pants that range from $25 to $50. The apparel will be available for purchase starting Saturday, April 11th at 12:00pm CST on the Centre website and all proceeds from the collaboration will be matched to help support The North Texas Food Bank. Genghis Grill to Benefit North Texas Food Bank May 15

Genghis Grill recently reopened its newly upgraded restaurant, located at 5500 Greenville Ave. in Dallas, and is celebrating by inviting the community to experience the new design while also supporting a good cause.

Located in the Old Town Shopping Center, Genghis Grill briefly closed for business while completing a major remodel project, the sixth in a plan to refresh all Dallas-Fort Worth locations. Continue reading

NTFB Taste of the Cowboys Ultimate Tailgate Party April 8th

Make plans for the 2018 Taste of the Cowboys, held at the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco. Hosted by the Dallas Cowboys Offensive-Line, led by Travis Frederick,  former Dallas Cowboys Chad Hennings and Preston Pearson,  and Chef Kent Rathbun, the event will feature past and present Dallas Cowboys players, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, live entertainment, and 30 gourmet tailgate food stations from North Texas’ hottest restaurants and chefs.

All proceeds will provide critical funds to support the nutritional needs of the one in four children in North Texas who are food insecure. Buy your tickets here.
