In response to the ongoing U.S. government shutdown and the resulting suspension of SNAP benefits, Dallas College is stepping up to support local families by hosting two emergency food pantries on Saturday, November 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The effort comes through a partnership between Dallas College and the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), expanding on the college’s existing monthly drive-thru pantry program that rotates between campuses. These extra pantry days are open to everyone—no ID required—and will operate at two locations:
- Dallas College Pleasant Grove Center – First Floor, Room 102, 802 S. Buckner Rd., Dallas
- Dallas College Mountain View Campus – S Building, Room S1016, 4849 W. Illinois Ave., Dallas
Visitors can expect free boxes filled with fresh produce, milk, and pantry staples, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Supporting Students and the Community
Food insecurity can be a significant barrier to student success, and Dallas College has long recognized the importance of addressing this need. Through its campus-based food pantries, the college ensures students can focus on their education without worrying about their next meal. On Community Pantry Days, that same support extends beyond campus walls, welcoming anyone in need. Alongside grocery items, some pantries also provide essentials such as snacks and diapers.

Major Donation to Boost Food Assistance
Adding to the effort, the Dallas County Commissioners Court has pledged $1 million to the North Texas Food Bank. This significant donation will help expand food access for Dallas County residents affected by the shutdown, including those facing delayed or reduced SNAP benefits.
The contribution will allow NTFB to deliver immediate relief in the form of 25-pound bags of shelf-stable foods and fresh produce, enough to create up to 30 meals per household—ensuring that more families can put nutritious food on the table during this difficult time.
