Sylvan Avenue Tavern Announces Opening in West Dallas

Sylvan Avenue Tavern (SAT) sailed smoothly through its first official opening week at Sylvan Thirty, bringing its signature take on artisan pizza and a wide menu, along with craft beer, a full bar, tavern games like pool and pinball, and a shaded rooftop patio that overlooks downtown Dallas. 

A sibling to the popular Bryan Street Tavern (BST), SAT plans to inspire the same devotion in locals, enticing people to enjoy a true neighborhood tavern experience with a varied scratch-made menu featuring “Readers Choice for Best Pizza in DFW,” salads, wings, sandwiches and pastas. The bar is more than just cold beer—there is a thoughtfully curated selection of craft cocktails with premium spirits and a bar staff who aims to please. TVs adorn most walls making SAT an ideal place to catch a game. SAT is the only restaurant/bar in the area with a late-night kitchen open until 2AM.

Kookie Haven is Cookie Heaven

When sisters Nita Briggs, Kim Haynes and Darla McCuen sat down to decide what business they would open it became vastly clear they needed to resurrect their mother’s recipes and open the bakery that it now at 337 West Jefferson in Dallas. Kookie Haven is often confused for just a cookie shop because of the name, but that was actually their mother’s name, and although she is in heaven now it is a haven for those that love great pastries.

Encina Opens Oct 9th

Encina – a warm and inviting neighborhood restaurant offering New American cuisine will open to the public on Friday, October 9 for happy hour and dinner Monday through Saturday (with Saturday/Sunday brunch service in coming weeks).

Located at 614 W. Davis Street in the beloved neighborhood of Oak Cliff in Dallas, Encina was created by chef/co-owner, Matt Balke (formerly Executive Chef of Bolsa) along with co-owner Corey McCombs (formerly front of house at Stephan Pyles, FT33, Flora Street and SMOKE) to offer an uncomplicated yet adventurous menu with influences from Texas, California and the South. With a very deliberate and thoughtful focus on seasonality and fresh ingredients, the name Encina is Spanish for Holm Oak – which is not only a type of tree but also the original name of Balke’s hometown of Uvalde, Texas. This is where his appreciation of quality, authentic ingredients and locally sourced produce and protein were born.

Dodds Leaves Mayor’s House Project Due To Delays

The Mayor’s House, the much-anticipated restaurant set to open in Oak Cliff, will be launching this year without the culinary leadership of Chef Graham Dodds. The two will be parting ways due to construction delays and a timing conflict. The restaurant, co-owned by husband-and-wife team A.J. Gilbert and Martha Madison, continues to move forward with opening plans for 4th quarter, just in time for holiday season, and the new chef will be announced in the coming weeks. Continue reading →
