Elbow Room Opened This Weekend For A Little Teaser Party

elbow roomby Steven Doyle

There have been rumblings at the old Elbow Room as they make final preparations to re-open their doors. I can almost smell that incredible pizza and the slurpy good drinks as I envision my butt sitting on the covered portion of the back patio. You might recall we reported the closure back in early December.   Continue reading

Village Baking Company Opening Retail Space Oct 4

by Steven Doyle

You may not have heard of the Village Baking Company, but they have been quietly been baking their artisan-style breads for the past eight years in the Dallas area. Clint Cooper has been baking his breads using only natural and organic ingredients such as unbleached flour, ground wheat, whole grains, filtered water, and sea salt – and absolutely no chemicals or preservatives. All of Village Baking’s Artisan breads are baked in small batches on hearth deck ovens giving our bread the distinctive goodness and golden crust that is its signature. Continue reading

First Look: MAX’s Wine Dive

by Steven Doyle

MAX’s Wine Dive makes its debut today with doors opening promptly at 4pm. This is the legendary restaurant that is known for their Kobe beef hot dog, fried chicken and Dom Perignon by the glass. It’s the bad boy of the neighborhood, inspired by the best dive bars in Texas, but with a wicked twist.  We checked out the restaurant last night during one of the preview events, and certainly were not disappointed.

The atmosphere is fairly typical with few exceptions. The restaurant features a large kitchen that is as wide as the bar and very open so you can view the action as your Veal Sweet Bread Pot Pie or Chicken Fried Brussel Sprouts are being concocted by chef Patrick Russell, formerly of Craft Dallas. Both of those dishes are crazy good. What is unexpected are the walls stuffed high and wide with glassware and bottles upon bottles of wine. It is interesting to note that chef Russell served us our last meal at Craft and our first at MAX’s. Continue reading

Quaker Steak and Lube Opens Today

by Steven Doyle

Last night we were invited to check out the latest edition of Quaker Steak and Lube, the casual dining chain hailing from Pennsylvania that is best known for their mountains of chicken wings and sauce choices. There were sampled most of what the restaurant had to offer and had a chance to visit with the CEO, John H. Longstreet.

The chicken wings recently became famous when Travel Channel’s Man vs Food host Adam Richman tackled the Triple Atomic challenge by devouring wings sauced with a searing 500,000 Scoville rated madness. That ventures well past the Scotch Bonnet and Habanero territory, and can be quite maddening on the palate.         Continue reading

Cowboy Chow To Close In Roanoke, Replaced With Tacos & Avocados

by Steven Doyle

Chef Jason Boso, best known for his thriving Twisted Root Burger Company, has announced plans to open a new concept called Tacos & Avocados. The fast, casual taco restaurant will feature quality ingredients in a down scale setting, with a focus on traditional and some not so traditional Mexican flavors. The space will also include a full bar with eight tequila-infused frozen margaritas, such as ginger-peach and watermelon-mint. The concept will also feature a self-serve and honor system paleta cart in the middle of the restaurant. Just slide a dollar into the coffee can and take any flavor you like.

Could this be Boso’s next big Twisted Root?
