Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see the world from somewhere “ far beyond”, or on a cloud…hell, even a shining star high in the dark sky? Try sitting in the Upper Tier at the Winspear Opera House and all of your wondering will be laid to rest.
The Winspear Opera House is nothing short of amazing, and a destination in Dallas that you must see; with it’s sleek design and friendly staff you will not be disappointed when you find yourself in the rafters wrapped up in sounds from top Indie-Folk band Bon Iver.
Monday night the Opera House lit up with indescribable sounds from finger-picked guitars, 2 full drum sets, French horns, dueling violins, trumpets, bass saxophones, and front man Jason Ventura’s angelic voice, oh my! No matter where you sat in the Winspear you couldn’t escape the spiritual experience taking place before you. Bon Iver, which is French for “good winter” lead Dallas fans down a path of sounds which I can only hope I will still be humming in Winter.
Their latest self-titled album, which was released in June, features the band at their finest musical awakening. They engage listeners with a symphony of instruments and harmonized lyrics captivating the indie-fan and turning the heads of heavy hitters like Kayne West. That’s right, even Kayne knows something “Amazing” when he hears it; so much in that he & Bon Iver collaborated on Kayne West’s 2010 & 2011 album alongside other big-timers like Jay-Z & Nicki Minaj.
Side Note: Canadian singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards (AKA Bon Iver front man Justin Vernon’s main squeeze) captured the attention of the sold out crowd with her raw and folk infused Sheryl Crow-esque style. Be sure to pick up her new album dropping September 27th.
Justin Vernon, not Jason Ventura.
