Café des Artistes Names David Garwacki As Executive Chef

by Steven Doyle

Last week we reported that a chef had been assigned to Café des Artistes, only to find out our source was off base. It happens.

Today Alberto Lombardi has announced David Garwacki as the Executive Chef for his newest concept, Café des Artistes, opening November 6th in One Arts Plaza.

Let’s look at the press release.

Garwacki will bring his upscale culinary expertise as well as his California and European inspired cooking style to Café des Artistes’ menu, providing a perfect complement to the space’s brasserie style ambience.  He is developing a Cali-Euro menu with seasonal market fresh ingredients along with culinary touches from the United States mixed with flavors from France, Italy and across the Mediterranean.

“Chef David Garwacki will be a stellar addition to the Lombardi Family Concepts newest restaurant, Café des Artistes. I am confident Chef David’s creative talent, combined with his invaluable culinary experience will make Café des Artistes a premier dining choice for all of Dallas,” said Alberto Lombardi.

A Texas native, Garwacki has worked in kitchens throughout the United States, from Texas to Hawaii to California. With an impressive resume, Garwacki brings over 11 years’ experience as the Executive Chef at the award-winning Bacara Resort and Spa in Santa Barbara, CA. During his tenure there, Garwacki served as the Executive Chef of the resort’s Bistro Restaurant and later the property’s Miro Restaurant.

At Bistro, he was responsible for creating seasonal California-Mediterranean menus and daily specials. In addition to participating in various culinary and wine events throughout the central California coast, Garwacki managed a full culinary and stewarding staff of 25. After three years at Bistro, Garwacki moved to The Bacara Resort and Spa’s signature restaurant, Miro. As Executive Chef at Miro, Garwacki utilized his creativity to create seasonal as well as daily tasting menus.

Prior to his roles at Bistro and Miro, Garwacki served as the Executive Sous Chef and Chef de Cuisine at Caliza Grille Restaurant in San Antonio’s Westin Riverwalk Hotel. During his time there, Garwacki played an instrumental role in the opening of the hotel and implementation of the culinary department. He also helped the restaurant achieve a 4A rating in its first review, the highest rating by a hotel restaurant in the city of San Antonio.

Garwacki led the opening of Browns Beach House Restaurant in The Fairmont Orchid at Mauna Lani, on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was his unique culinary vision that helped the restaurant obtain the prestigious “Restaurant of Distinction” award by readers of Honolulu Magazine within its first year of opening.

Café des Artistes will feature a brasserie style ambience with both indoor and al fresco dining. Perfect for pre or post-theater dining, a romantic evening out, a weekday business lunch, or Sunday brunch, Café des Artistes will bring a new and unique dining option to the Dallas Arts District.  Hours are Tuesday through Friday 11:00am until 1:00am; Saturday 5:00pm until 1:00am; Sunday brunch and dinner from 11:00am until 9:00pm.  The restaurant will be closed on Mondays.
