The streets of Dallas near the AAC were filled with herds of people on Monday, although this particular night the crowds were moving in opposite directions. What!!–not everyone walking about was headed to watch the Mavs? The scantily clad tweensters, hipsters, and music-folk alike were headed to the House of Blues for the sold out and highly anticipated Imagine Dragons feature, while dedicated Mavs fans made their way to check out the Hawks.
As with any sold out concert, the anticipation was high and Imagine Dragons not only met my anticipation head on, they actually gave me an inspired, theatrical, and moving concert experience. The Las Vegas based, 4 member band of Dragons stormed the stage in act one with an oversized drum that made lead singer Dan Reynolds look like a much smaller Dragon. He gallantly addressed the drum, which later we observed was used throughout the performance in a dramatic and effective way.
Dan and his Imaginative Dragons encourage their fans to crowd surf in order to energize the already killer vibe floating around the House originally known for Blues. The band plays their chart topping single “It’s Time” which reached the top 5 on the Billboard Alternative and Billboard Rock charts. “Radioactive” from their 2013 “Night Visions” album is my personal (and apparently crowd) favorite with its electric anthem that would encourage your grandmother to attempt a sweet little crowd surf.
Overall, Imagine Dragons gave an incredible performance to an eager Dallas crowd, and if I can recommend anything for your 2013 resolution, which you most likely have already tossed aside, it is to check out an Imagine Dragons concert. You won’t be disappointed.
