La Pulga Spirits, founded by three local entrepreneurs from Fort Worth, has expanded its range of premium Mexican spirits with the release of two limited-edition tequilas: a high-proof blanco and reposado, both labeled “La Pulga 110.” The name “110” refers to the tequilas’ 110 proof (55% alcohol by volume), which represents the highest permissible proof for tequila.
Dave Wiley, Vice President of Marketing at La Pulga Spirits, explains, “La Pulga Blanco 110 and La Pulga Reposado 110 are bold, high-proof tequilas that highlight the rich character and complexity of our top-tier agave. While few tequilas reach 55% ABV, it’s a testament to the exceptional quality of our base liquid. Despite the higher alcohol content, La Pulga 110 still delivers the signature smoothness that bartenders and consumers expect from our brand.”
To create the 110 proof, the team at the distillery in Jalisco, Mexico (NOM 1068) distills the spirit in small batches to 60% ABV before employing a unique aeration technique to bring it up to 110 proof, with minimal or no water involved. This results in a pure tequila, free from additives, offering a robust agave flavor that works wonderfully in high-proof cocktails or can be sipped on its own.
La Pulga is named after the “Pulga” outdoor market on University Drive in Fort Worth’s Northside, where people gather to celebrate and connect. The brand was founded by Sarah Castillo, Andrew De La Torre, and Stephen Slaughter, three friends who bonded over their passion for tequila and agave spirits. Despite living in Texas, a state abundant with tequila, they struggled to find a brand that offered exceptional quality, great taste, and affordability—without additives. So, they created La Pulga to fill that gap.
La Pulga Tequilas, along with the brand’s “Wild Spirits” portfolio of mezcal and sotol, are distributed by Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) in bars and restaurants across the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and select Texas markets, as well as available at premium retailers. The tequilas can also be purchased directly from the La Pulga website, with plans to expand to more U.S. markets in the near future.
La Pulga 110 Blanco is priced at $64.99 for a 750ml bottle, while the La Pulga 110 Reposado is $74.99 for the same size. Each bottle is designed with an eye-catching, easy-to-pour shape, sealed with a high-quality cork stopper, and features a collectible La Pulga medallion, symbolizing the brand’s commitment to quality, community, and celebration.
