An estimated 200 million people worldwide with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) face profound and persistent barriers—whether it’s difficulty finding meaningful employment, forming social connections, or simply being included in their communities. This weekend, a grassroots effort in Frisco is stepping up to shift that narrative.
On Saturday, April 26, Best Buddies, a global nonprofit championing inclusion for individuals with IDD, is hosting its annual Friendship Walk at Rough Riders Field in Frisco. Sponsored by MOD Pizza, the event blends community engagement with advocacy, turning a simple walk into a powerful symbol of unity and progress.
Best Buddies’ mission goes far beyond a one-day gathering—it’s about creating lasting impact. The organization works year-round to promote friendship, integrated employment, and leadership development for individuals with IDD. Events like the Friendship Walk are critical touchpoints, offering participants a chance to be seen, celebrated, and supported. MOD Pizza’s involvement is more than a corporate sponsorship; it’s a continuation of the company’s purpose-driven ethos. Known for its inclusive hiring practices, MOD is rallying its employees—affectionately called the “MOD Squad”—along with customers, to join the walk and champion a cause that aligns with the brand’s core values.
But the partnership doesn’t stop at the park. To extend the spirit of the event, MOD Pizza is inviting local Best Buddies chapters to host fundraising nights at area restaurants. During these events, 30% of all sales will be donated directly to the organization, turning every pizza slice into a small act of change. It’s a delicious way for the community to stay involved and keep the momentum of the Friendship Walk alive well beyond the weekend.
By combining grassroots action with corporate responsibility, Best Buddies and MOD Pizza are creating not just an event, but a movement—one that brings visibility, resources, and joy to a population that deserves nothing less.
