Vivador Jimmy Baldwin’s Tune Named Official Song of Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day (Video)

jimmy

Texas has its own day to celebrate the almighty chicken fried steak and it is on October 26. The day was created by seventh-generation Texan and local entrepreneur, Jeffrey Yarbrough in 2010. Last year there was an addition of “Peace, Love, and Chicken Fried Steak” by Jimmy Baldwin as the day’s statewide anthem performed and filmed at Allgood Café .

Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day came about when Yarbrough realized one of Texas’ beloved food groups was not receiving the recognition it deserved. With the assistance of several other restaurateurs such as State Representative and Las Casas Restaurant (recently closed) owner Ralph Sheffield, Yarbrough was able to get the resolution signed on May 2, 2010 for Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day. Celebrate Festivus in Dallas

by Steven Doyle

Festivus is a holiday created by the writers of the now syndicated television program, Seinfeld. The wildly popular show featured the weekly antics of Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer as they battled through life in New York City. Often times they would be disturbed from their self indulgences forced to interact with their parents. One particular episode the viewers discovered a quirky holiday made up by the father of George Costanza, Frank.

In real life Festivus dates back to 1966 when Dan O’Keefe, former editor of Reader’s Digest decided that Christmas was too commercial to celebrate. Years later O’Keefe’s son, Daniel, would write for the series and included it into a script that ran in December, 1987.   Continue reading
